Whatcha doin’ this weekend???
I have 29 trays, that’s right, 29 trays of sunflowers ready to get planted this weekend. So, if you have a couple minutes or an hour and want to crawl around in the sand, let me know! I’ll be planting after work today and from 9-? On Saturday (maybe earlier but is Saturday, I’m non committal to an early start).

Harvested just for you. What a privilege to grow flowers and share them with my community for all their celebrations.

Early summer harvest!! I thought I had a ‘few’ stems to cut for weekend bouquets….but those few stems filled my little cooler tonight. I can’t wait for you all to get these flowers in to your homes this weekend.

One thing I love about flower farming is that I’m constantly learning new things. I follow several other flower farmers that share their experiences, have several books I reference and have taken a couple online courses.

This time of year we call a flower gap. Spring tulips are done (mine were a fail), peonies are ending (I only have a couple mature plants, but 30 newly planted this spring) and the hope of summer annuals is roughly a month away. Filling this gap is a learning curve. I’ve started more perennials, learned to fall plant and trialed which plants will over winter (borderline perennials in my zone).

My personal bouquet this week is mostly from my own perennial gardens: peony, ninebark, baptisia, lupine and clematis. Have you ever considered cutting a couple clematis to put in a bouquet? I’m trialing this, I didn’t even cut these at the ‘right’ stage of maturity but they are on day 4 and looking great.

It’s Thursday and I will have bouquets in the flower stand on Friday and Saturday. Because of the ‘flower gap’ there won’t be a lot of bouquets, but I’m excited to share what I do have.

The stand is closed for the weekend.

If you are still thinking about growing tubers, I have some left, send me a message. If they aren’t grabbed by next weekend I’ll be “forced” to add another row to my dahlia field and grow them myself ;)
