The Shelter Is Open. The New Shelter Isn’t. So Where Did All The Animals Go?

Baxter Springs, Kansas - Ollie was adopted from the Baxter Springs animal control two years ago, and her adopter says she thanks God for it. Now animal advocates are asking a much bigger question after KSNF/KODE reported concerns over stray dogs that reportedly disappeared from the city dog pound.

According to KSNF/KODE, social media posts allege Baxter Springs Police euthanized several dogs for unexplained reasons. The news station reported that those claims surfaced in the community group What’s Happening in Baxter Springs after someone asked why there were suddenly no dogs in the Baxter Springs dog pound. KSNF/KODE says they were able to confirm on Friday that there were no animals in the cages.

The report also says the city built a new animal shelter, but it has not yet opened, and that one city official said they were in contact with the Chief of Police and were waiting on pound records. KSNF/KODE reported that no one from City Hall would answer their questions and that Chief Rick Comer would not meet with the reporter or return a call.

This is exactly why animal advocates are asking for records, not rumors. Every animal who enters a government pound should be accounted for with intake records, disposition records, rescue or foster transfer records, adoption records, veterinary records, and euthanasia records, if any exist.

Please share this so these animals do not disappear from public attention too. The community deserves answers, and the dogs deserve to be accounted for. Don't forget to share and keep aware.

😹😹😹 Anyone who has ever locked up the store with me at night knows this is absolutely 💯 spot-on.

✅ “Goodnight babies! Be good! No fighting, no parties, no messes! That means YOU, _____! And _____, you’re in charge. Be NICE!! LOVE YOU!!”

Every night lol.

You also need to tell them how long you’ll be gone

🫶🏽I’m sharing this from an incredible bookstore in Shawnee (that you should definitely visit) owned by an incredible owner (who’s still in freaking HIGH SCHOOL, no less) so don’t go getting excited & click-happy unless you’re wanting to drive to Shawnee every week. But I’m sharing because I absolutely LOVE this concept & while I have way too much on my plate at the moment to organize this myself, I think it would be super groovy if someone did!!! Come on, we chat with enough of yall on the daily to know that we are NOT the only women around here who could seriously use a group like this!! Ammiright?!? Who’s down to take the lead & get it going? Save a life - Provide an outlet! 🫶🏽😵‍💫🫶🏽

If you are premenopausal, menopausal, or postmenopausal and you simply do not care much anymore... You are invited to join us as we PUT THE WORLD ON NOTICE every 2nd and 4th Thursday at 6pm.

You are NOT required to read a specific book, although the hilarious handbook in the picture is available and supports our founding shero, Melanie Sanders, who bravely posted her first viral video just one year ago and built THIS MOVEMENT.

We will ALSO keep an open dialogue and compile a community book list that you can contribute to... Books that gave us answers, made us feel better, or helped put this weird time in our lives into context. What books do YOU think we should add to our list?

This coming Thursday (and at every meeting) we will start out by quickly going over a fresh list of "announcements" as per tradition by Melanie... Announcements follow a certain serious but dry humor pattern found on Melanie's page:

https://www.facebook.com/share/r/17T4nPMDrA/

Here is a handy Google link for you to contribute YOUR OWN weekly announcements:

https://tinyurl.com/Do-you-have-an-Announcement

There is no fee to join this group, but we have decided to add a LOOSE CHANGE donation jar for each meeting with one eye on cleaning out our center consoles and purses, and the other eye trained on trying to do good in the world. We all know we have a few coins and maybe by the end of the year this collection will add up to something significant enough to donate to someone in need. Lord knows sometimes we help ourselves by helping others. So contribute a dollar each meeting or some loose change, or stick to your budget sis and don't contribute a darn dime. We trust your judgment.

To answer a few more common questions...

"Will there be food or drink??" Heck no! Not in this economy! But... hydration is important! We encourage you to bring your own beverage or, if you're having a good week and feeling generous, sure... Bring a beverage or snack to share with the group.

We will have a community table at each meeting for you to put things on that you would like to share, including napkins, a bottle opener, and disposable cups, etc.

"What are we DOING?" Whatever the heck we want! And we genuinely mean that. This coming Thursday, we will be working on an activity centered around changing self-image and self-esteem. But sometimes, like last week, we will just talk and get to know each other.

It is totally normal for people to come and go as they please. There is no "arriving late". There is no "leaving early". In an ideal world we would all be gone by 9pm, but don't hold us to that. We reserve the right to start talking about something, break down into tears, and have to walk each other to our respective cars at 10:00. Don't judge.

And with some of those basic, common Q&A's out of the way... RIGHT NOW please take a quick moment to set a reminder on your phone for the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month. 📌🗓

If you attended our last meeting, please also expect to get a reminder on Tuesday night by cell phone.

Feel free to LABEL this reminder as
girl's night,
"gym" (with quotations),
or book club... after all, we are rendezvousing in a bookstore.

Whatever floats your boat and whatever label successfully helps you get your butt in gear to get... to.... the.... meeting.

Have a fantastic week, all of you! 😘💋 And we look forward to seeing some of you beautiful souls this Thursday.
