Soft Hackle Guide Service

Soft Hackle Guide Service I have retired from guiding. I do intend to fish with old friends and teach technique by spells.

Guess what the fish are on? These guys are something to tie.

Went down below Murphy this afternoon. Flow was at 380- something, temp 52F on my thermometer. A few sulfurs, but not many. A few Yellow Drakes, but not many. I released 5 on dries, Sulfur duns. I also got a slam down there. The first time I’ve done that in that section in years. The salmon is the hard one to get.

Measles has continued its historic resurgence in the United States this year, with a second record-breaking year in a row.

For those who might be up this weekend. “Doctor Green’s” in Colebrook has a limited amount of Buffalo Trace available. I grabbed two, left the others for friends.

I went Dow to the river below Murphy Dam. It was a bit breezy with the weather coming in, but the wind was downstream and manageable for casting. The flow is at 300cfs with a temp of just under 52 F on my thermometer. I only saw a couple bugs and very few fish in the surface. I missed three using SH’s and caught one using a caddis dry. It is supposed to be a bit wet and windy the next few days. Thursday I’m headed to watch my grandson play some U-8 baseball down below. I’ll be back on the river Friday.

Just a tad windy out there the last two days. I was out yesterday and spent most of my time cutting wind knots out of leaders and doing repairs. It sucked. Looks windier today.

Information request ……. A friend of mine wants to make a trip to Montana and has asked for my assistance. I’m thinking lodge with access to a Spring Creek or small wadeable creek/river. Guides and drifting, good food and accommodations. Reasonable.
Suggestions?

I was out and about. The Trophy Stretch is running around 250cfs, water temp 62F. I got three rainbow and one small Fallfish on dries.
Murphy is at 300cfs and 50F degrees. I was there right around noon, saw a few Little Sulfurs, a few fish near the surface. I may have been there too early. 50F is right on the line. I used dries the whole time. I didn’t make the switch to nymphs. So, who knows?

Hope you were able to get out this weekend and get on the water, stay cool (somewhat), and maybe net a fish or two. It was a beautiful weekend up here and the weather coming up this week looks pretty solid - some showers here and there, but overall it should be a pleasant one to cast a line.

The flows are finally at summertime normals, 150cfs in the Trophy Stretch and 300cfs below Murphy. I was below Murphy yesterday at 500 cfs and a temp of 50F. There were just a few of the Little Sulfur coming off, no fish on the surface, missed one on a nymph.
