fire warms air, allowing it to rise and move stagnant energy.
combined, the two create smoke that carries wishes and prayers up to the heavens.
but as in all things, balance is key, as air can smother fire and fire can make air toxic.
the shells are the mouths with messages and lessons from ourselves.

my face when people seem to be offended or feel the need to make comments about the fact that i do not want to be touched nor do i typically engage in hand-to-hand exchanges of money or other objects.

not that i need to over-explain myself…but i will. 😆

first, mind your business. if i don’t want to make physical or intentional energetic contact with you, maybe you need to disclose why you have such a need to make that type of contact with me that you are off-put by my denial of your desire to do so. 🤔 i find that suspicious and predatorial.

second, more than once i have had actual physical and spiritual/psychic reactions to touching things and people whose energy i should not be absorbing. this may or may not include that time my ancestors knocked a cupcake out of my hand cuz i should have been eating carrot sticks and hummus instead. 🙄🙄

and finally…being so close to others is how yall get bed bugs. stop it.

Maferefun Oyá! I am so so grateful for everyone who attended my first ocha birthday last weekend. To see so many beautiful and different faces here to acknowledge and participate in celebrating this journey (which has just begun!) and the importance of the orishas in my life was such a beautiful and profound experience. I can name each person that was here, even if just briefly, and that means more than you can know.

To have elder priests and priestesses (local and not-so-local) of Oshun, Oyá, Sango, Ochosi, Obatala, Yemaya, and even Agayu, in attendance made this even more special. I also appreciate the calls, cards, and texts from those who wanted to make it but weren’t able. Oh! And having my Ibeji godbrothers drumming for my orisha is something I’ve been looking forward to for an entire year!

I am also SO grateful that my mother, my children, my grandchildren, my siblings, and my nieces and nephews were here as well.

Big thanks to Patti's Pasticceria for the cake, Tree Haus for the food, The Medicine House for the tea, and Nice To Be Iced Cookies for the custom cookies!

I’m going to bed and when I wake up I’m getting my eyebrows done. IYKYK!
