MARCH MEET THE MAKER: All about you
We’re the mother-daughter duo behind Plant Lady Wannabe. I’m Annie and my mom is Bridget. My mom learned to crochet from her Irish grandmother when she was 7-years-old. She graduated from Baldwin High School and married her high school sweetheart, my dad Pete, and they’ve been married for 43 years. They now live in Oakdale. She has been a nurse for decades, working at Mercy Hospital, AGH and now for Cigna Health Insurance. I’ve got to brag here, she’s simply the best mom and grandma to my kids. 💕💕 She taught me to crochet when I was 11-years-old. I work in tv production at KDKA-TV and freelance for the Pittsburgh Penguins and NEXTpittsburgh. I live in Brighton Heights on the North Side with my husband Ben and our two kids.🌵We’re so thankful to have a lot of help with Plant Lady. This past season we’ve had crochet help from Abby Kuftic, Brooke Askew and Tegan Eisenbeis. Ben has also become our Plant Man Wannabe, stuffing our cacti, stickering our pots and delivering orders for us. And we couldn’t do our big shows without my dad Pete and my sister Hope and her wife Ciera. Thanks to everyone who makes Plant Lady Wannabe possible!

MARCH MEET THE MAKER: Brand Origin
We’re pumped to follow along on the prompts this month! 💕🌵

Our brand is Plant Lady Wannabe and it began in 2016. My mom and I wanted a fun project to do together. We made dozens of p***y hats in 2016 and liked hanging out, crocheting together and wanted to make it a regular thing. That’s when we started thinking about what we could make that was unique. We saw a few ideas for cacti on Pinterest, but many of the patterns were in other languages and realized there was no one else in Pittsburgh making crocheted cacti. Plant Lady Wannabe was born. I’m sort of obsessed with our name and we always tell people that it’s totally accurate, we love plants but do kill them all. We’re just wannabes.

Our logo is bright, just like the flowers on our plants. We want our products to add that pop of color to a space with a slightly quirky, yet modern style.
