How much Friuli is there in Pittsburgh? More than you might think. 🇮🇹🇺🇸

We had the pleasure of welcoming a delegation from EFASCE (Ente Friulano Assistenza Sociale Culturale Emigranti) to Pittsburgh, beginning with a meeting at Istituto Mondo Italiano - Centro di cultura italiana and continuing with a visit to Danieli.

Founded in Pordenone in 1907, EFASCE has spent more than a century keeping alive the connections among Friulani and their descendants around the world—and Western Pennsylvania has its own fascinating chapter in that story.

The visit to Danieli was especially meaningful: a company with deep roots in Friuli-Venezia Giulia connecting with Pittsburgh through something both places understand very well—steel, craftsmanship and innovation.

And there couldn't be a better time to rediscover these connections: Pordenone has been named the Italian Capital of Culture for 2027, with the wonderfully fitting theme “Pordenone 2027. Città che sorprende” — A City That Surprises.

So, in the spirit of surprises, here is one for you:

🍇 A “WELCOME BACK HOME” FROM OUR GRAPEVINES!

Nothing says welcome home quite like stepping outside, picking fresh grapes straight from our vines, and turning them into Schiacciata all’Uva — a delicious Tuscan treat that celebrates the arrival of fall.

I first discovered this recipe through Giulia Scarpaleggia and simply couldn’t resist trying it.
