Last night, the first one. Friday Night Wine Down is officially a tradition — the first Friday of every month, June through November.

Lamb off the board, wine that kept getting topped off, kids with their own picnic by the fireplace, and a porch full of people watching the light go gold over the foothills.

Thank you to everyone who brought a bottle, a bite, and yourselves. The next one is Friday, July 3 — same chairs, same sunset, same open door.

Meet the woman behind the brand — and the reason Friday nights around here look a little different.

Kristie runs creative at Backyard Bougie, but if you ask her what the best part of the week is, the answer has nothing to do with deadlines. It's the moment when the laptop closes, the glass gets poured, and the evening finally belongs to the people in the room.

We built Friday Night Wine Down around that exact feeling.

This Friday, June 5 at 6 PM in Placerville — wine, good company, string lights, and the kind of slow evening the foothills were made for. No pretense. Just presence.

We'd love to have you at the table.

Settle a dinner-table debate for us. 🍽️

Our waitress tonight took our entire order — drinks, modifications, the picky-eater special requests — without writing down a single word. Just nodded, smiled, walked off.

Kristie was *impressed.* Mike was sweating, waiting for the wrong plate to land. 😂

So we have to ask:

**Is memorizing the order an impressive flex... or an unnecessary risk?**

🅰️ Comment **A** — Impressive. That's a pro.
🅱️ Comment **B** — Just write it down, I beg you.

And if you've got a "they swore they'd remember and got it SO wrong" story — drop it below. We need them. 👇

Here's the part of running a web studio nobody talks about much: your own site is a live argument for everything you tell clients.

For two years, ours wasn't winning that argument.

We ran thebackyardbougie.com inside a popular web-builder because it kept our stack consolidated. It made sense right up until we had to be honest with ourselves — our mobile performance scores were in the mid-70s no matter what we trimmed, we had two documented accessibility exceptions we couldn't engineer around, and our carefully written schema blocks were injecting inconsistently across pages.

Those are the exact problems we help clients fix. Running them on our own site wasn't something we could keep justifying.

We moved to Astro on Hostinger this year. The new build ships as pure HTML for every page that doesn't need JavaScript, clears WCAG 2.1 AA with no third-party exceptions, and loads the way a site should load. The full story — what broke, what we built, and what we learned on the other side — is on the blog.

If your business site is running into similar ceilings and you want to talk through whether a platform move makes sense, we're an honest call. Either the timing is right, or it isn't — either answer saves you something.

We're starting a new tradition this year — Friday Night Wine Down, the first Friday of every month, here at the farm.

The first one is Friday, June 5 at 6:00 PM.
