As you all know from my last post, my brother Matthew tragically succumbed to his depression on November 19, 2020. Having lost my mother to cancer at a young age, I have always had a special place in my heart for memorial pieces. Having gotten into 3D printing, and learning of a thing called a lithophane, I decided to 3D print a lithophane lampshade in memorial of my brother, to be given to our father for his birthday. This is the result of that idea.
I originally bought a lamp at Wal-Mart to put the printed shade on, but did not think it was special enough, so decided to hand turn a lamp instead. I figured it would give extra meaning to the lamp as it then is a shade in memorial of one of my father's sons, on a wooden lamp hand turned by another of his sons.
Once I determined that this was what I wanted to do, I remembered that I had some very special wood in my workshop.
The wood used to make the body of this lamp was sourced from a tree that stood ~150 feet from where my brother's cremains are now laid to rest.
The wood specie is unknown.
Lamp base is made from Maple.
The lithophane lampshade was 3D printed using eSUN Cool White PLA+ filament.
Total print time was 3 days, 15 hours, 51 minutes, 6 seconds. (87:51:06 HH:MM:SS)
