Plant Spotlight: Goldfish Plant ‘Candy Corn’
If you love a plant with a sense of humor, this one is for you.
Botanical name: Nematanthus gregarius ‘Candy Corn’
Also called: Brazilian Firecracker, Guppy Plant, Candy Corn Goldfish Plant
This is the goldfish plant, but leveled up. Instead of the classic all-orange goldfish-shaped blooms, ‘Candy Corn’ gives you two-tone tubular flowers — bright orange with a buttery yellow tip — that really do look like candy corn hanging among the vines. 
The plant itself is a trailing beauty. Small, thick, super glossy dark green leaves on arching stems, perfect for spilling out of a hanging basket or off a high shelf. It’s native to southeast Brazil and part of the Gesneriaceae family, so it loves that warm, bright, slightly humid spot. 
How to make it happy:
Light: Bright, indirect light is the sweet spot. Think 6-8 hours of bright filtered light. It will bloom best there, but keep it out of harsh midday direct sun which can scorch those shiny leaves.
Water: Low-maintenance in the best way. Let the top 1-2” of soil dry slightly between waterings, then water thoroughly. It likes well-draining soil and does not like wet feet. 
Soil & Pot: Light, coarse, well-draining mix — an African violet or orchid-type mix works great. Drainage is key.
Humidity & Temp: Loves average household warmth 65-75°F. A little extra humidity will keep it blooming longer, but it’s not fussy.
Feeding: Light feeder. A balanced houseplant fertilizer every 2-4 weeks in spring/summer while it’s blooming.
Why we love it at the shop: It blooms for a LONG time indoors, it’s compact but trails beautifully, and it’s a great conversation starter. Not a huge drama queen — just give it light and don’t overwater.
