While not very exciting to look at, this stack of wood is doing something very important!

Yep, you guessed it… acclimating.

Because we live in a high mountain desert and the wood we install is shipped in from environments vastly different than ours, it’s important to “introduce” or acclimate wood flooring. About 2 weeks before install, we will deliver wood planks to a home. We leave them to sit on the same level of the house where they will be installed. This allows the wood to get used to the moisture level of its new space.

Acclimating helps in preventing warping, buckling, and shrinking. If you don’t have a whole house humidifier, this is a great time to add one to your HVAC system! We recommend running it at 35-45% to keep hardwoods happy!

Remember that red oak we posted about extending the other day? Well, after fi*****ng in new boards, a good sanding, and applications of fruitwood stain + satin finish, it’s looking all sorts of fresh and new!

What is fruitwood? Fruitwood stain mimics the color of fruit tree wood. It is a warm, light brown with golden undertones that helps create a more caramel, amber look on red oak. It’s a great choice when wanting to create a cozy feeling. Lends beautifully to traditional, country, cottage, and rustic design.
