To my wonderful Lilacs & Lemons Farmhouse Bakery family,
Effective yesterday, I have made the difficult decision to greatly reduce our bakery hours and will now be accepting custom orders only on a case-by-case basis.
As I have shared in previous posts, many of our customers are already aware of my ongoing health challenges. Those health issues were one of the primary reasons I made the difficult decision not to return to the Farmers Market this season. I have always believed in being honest and transparent with our customers, and I feel it is important to keep you updated.
Today marks Day 18 of my current migraine. Combined with neuropathy, syncope, and a Crohn's disease flare, I am simply not physically able to consistently accept and fulfill last-minute orders. Lately, I have been spending much of my time in bed, and it has become increasingly difficult to be on my feet for extended periods or keep up with the physical demands of running the bakery.
For those who may not know my medical history, along with being a livelong celiac with Chrones disease, I was diagnosed in 2015 with syncope, a Patent Foramen Ovale (PFO), degenerative spine disease, narcolepsy, and neuropathy*. Last October, after collapsing and blacking out while at the Farmers Market, my medical team also diagnosed me with, MCAS, chronic migraine, and addition heart condition and several other conditions. I was hospitalized again in March after another blackout episode. Due to the amount of medication, I am now on, I have had to minimize my driving as I have had several syncope episodes, and it is not safe.
Unfortunately, my migraines have become a monthly occurrence, with each episode lasting longer and becoming more debilitating than the one before. My physicians continue to adjust my treatment plan by adding new medications and therapies in hopes of finding relief, but at this time, I have not experienced meaningful improvement.
Because of this, I have to put my health first. Going forward, every bakery order will be evaluated based on my health at the time it is requested. I have reduced offerings to simpler items that so not require so much time on my feet. While I never want to disappoint anyone, I also don't want to accept orders that I may not physically be able to complete to the standard our customers deserve.
This has been one of the hardest decisions I have ever had to make. I also want to be honest that I am considering permanently closing Lilacs & Lemons Farmhouse Bakery. Since last October, my health has limited me to fulfilling only a small number of orders, and it has become increasingly difficult to continue operating the bakery in the way I always have.
To every customer who has supported us over the years—whether you placed an order, shared our posts, recommended us to friends, stopped by the Farmers Market, or simply offered prayers and encouragement—thank you. Your kindness, loyalty, and support have meant more to my family than words can ever express.
I remain hopeful that my medical team will find a treatment plan that brings lasting relief. Until then, I appreciate your patience, your understanding, and your continued prayers as I focus on my health and my family.
