Healthy soil is alive!

Great gardens and healthy lawns start below the surface.

-Earthworms naturally aerate the soil and help break down organic matter.
-Organic matter improves soil structure, adds nutrients, and helps retain moisture.
-Good drainage gives roots access to both water and oxygen, creating the ideal environment for healthy growth.

Healthy soil means stronger roots, healthier plants, and a landscape that's better equipped to handle summer heat and changing weather.

Looking to improve your soil? We carry compost, screened loam, and other quality landscape materials to help your lawn and gardens thrive.

How Much Mulch Do You Really Need?

Mulch does more than make your landscape look finished, it helps retain moisture, regulate soil temperature, reduce weeds, and protect plant roots.

But when it comes to mulch, more isn’t always better! A good rule of thumb is to apply 2–3 inches of mulch around trees, shrubs, and garden beds.

A few helpful tips:

Don’t pile mulch against tree trunks or plant stems
Keep mulch a few inches away from the base of plants. “Mulch volcanoes” can trap moisture against bark and cause problems over time.

Refresh, don’t bury - If you already have mulch in your beds, check the depth before adding more. You may only need a light top-dressing.

Mulch helps hold moisture. A proper layer of mulch helps your landscape stay hydrated during hot New Hampshire summers.

Need help figuring out how much you need?

Measure your beds and we can help you calculate the right amount for your project.

Whether you’re refreshing an existing landscape or starting a new planting bed, we’re here to help you choose the right materials and get the job done right.

Is your lawn turning brown? It might not be a problem!

During hot, dry New Hampshire summers, many lawns naturally go dormant. That brown color is your grass conserving energy and protecting itself until cooler weather and rain return. 🌱

A few ways to help:

Water deeply
Mow a little higher
Protect soil moisture with mulch and healthy soil practices

Not sure what your lawn needs? We’re here to help with local knowledge and the right materials for your landscape.
