If you have any questions about how to split a peony root, drop them below and I can answer them!! My biggest tip is to just keep it simple. All you’re trying to do is literally “divide” or “split” the root. Just make sure each split has an eye (just like dahlia tubers) and you’re good to go.

This is what happens underground. 🤯

When I plant our peony roots, they typically have 3–5 eyes. Those little eyes are where the next season’s growth will come from.

Fast forward a few years…

I dug up a few of those plants and they were covered with eyes…upwards of 25+.

THAT is just one of the things I love about peonies. They get better with time!

You plant what might not look like much at first. But year after year, that plant gets bigger, stronger and produces more and more flowers.

And with a little patience, that 3–5 eye root can turn into THIS. 🙌
