Artist Statement
My name is Jessie Fries and I am a freelance artist ~ painter : free spirited may be more accurate. Within my work I am often drawn to nature and simple, rural, everyday surroundings. My subject matter is often flowers, birds, sunsets, star-filled evening skies or the sea. I am attracted to these things because it expresses the wonder I feel in my very existence. In my paintings I blend bold colorful acrylics and mixed media to create texture and form as well as using warm earthy hues to create an inviting palate. Every piece I create reflects a part of my soul and each piece allows me to improve technique and style. Knowing I have created something beautiful by the end of each new day is fulfilling. My hope is that my art will connect with an audience either spiritually, or emotionally, and also share a celebration of all things beautiful. My ambition as an artist is to acknowledge the visual world, while continuing to learn and understand my own inner world. As a self-taught artist, the learning process was simple~ trial and error. I appreciate many styles of art, as long as there has been honest artistic effort put forth. That is, and always has been my conviction, to put forth my best effort. It is my philosophy that art provides us with an aesthetic appreciation of our world. I feel art should smile upon everything. So in this sense, art becomes a luxury in life. Shouldn’t every life include a little bit of luxury?
