Sometimes the missing ingredient isn’t another color. It’s a better shape.

Tropicals like Shampoo Ginger, Heliconia, and Ginger give floral designers strong lines, unusual texture, and natural focal points without making the recipe unnecessarily complicated.

Use them to break up softer flowers, create movement in larger work, or give an arrangement something people don’t see in every other design.

Straight from today's cooler, no filter needed.

Coral petals layered tight around a golden center. A bold yellow face big enough to draw the eye from across the room. Deep purple spikes standing at attention, still opening. Soft blush rounds, the kind of stem people build a whole order around. And a lime green rosette closing it out, tight ruffled clusters with an almost architectural texture.

Bells of Ireland are one of the few greens that can carry an arrangement by themselves.

Tall square stems, bells all the way up, and the kind of architectural line that gives an event piece height without adding another focal flower to the cost. They work grouped alone in a tall vase, and they work threaded through a mixed recipe to break up the round shapes.

A couple of notes from our team. Store them upright, because the stems bend if they sit flat. Wear gloves when stripping them, since there are small thorns hidden under the leaves. And they dry well, so they keep working after the event is over.

Orange, pink, lavender, and none of them are doing the same job.

The orange one is what the customer points at. The pink cluster is the texture that makes the whole thing read finished. The lavender one is the softness that keeps it from going tropical.

Just know they run on different clocks — the lavender is the first to go, so design around it and let the other two carry the back half of the week.

Lori's holding Veronica today at our Riviera Beach store — assorted colors, purple, hot pink and white.

It's a spike flower, which means it brings height and a vertical line to an arrangement without crowding the other stems. The florets open from the bottom up, so the spike keeps developing after it's placed.

One thing to know: it's sensitive to ethylene. Keep it away from ripening fruit.
