🍁 The Bloodgood Nursery on Long Island, New York, which was established in 1793 and brought the cultivar to Western markets following the Civil War, is the source of the tree's name.
🍁 The Bloodgood Japanese Maple maintains its rich deep-burgundy and purple foliage throughout the summer before turning a fiery fire-engine or crimson red in the fall, in contrast to many red-leaved maples that fade to a muddy bronze or green by midsummer.
🍁 This slow-growing beauty can live for 80 to 100+ years with the right care and a suitable location.
🍁 The tree retains its allure even after the leaves fall, revealing a remarkable, sculptural branch structure and smooth, dark gray to blackish-red bark.
🍁 It grows slowly enough to be easily kept smaller, grown in large containers, or even trained as a bonsai, even though it can reach a height and width of about 15 to 20 feet.
