✨Fun Fact Friday✨
🌸 Ninebark's distinctive peeling bark, which sheds in many papery strips to reveal reddish or light brown inner layers, gives it its name. Some claim that the shrub appears to have precisely nine layers of bark.
🌸 The plant's inflated, balloon-like seed pods are referred to by the scientific term Physocarpus, which is derived from the Greek words physa (bladder or bellows) and karpos (fruit).
🌸 Native American cultures, such as the Iroquois, used extracts from the inner bark to treat everything from wounds and abscesses to laxatives and pain relievers.
🌸 Numerous cultivars have been produced by modern horticulture. The leaf can be blazing chartreuse, rich burgundy, or almost black, depending on the cultivar (such as "Diabolo" or "Little Devil").
