A summer marketing gig on an oyster farm is the simple reset she needs. Well, it would be—if not for the gruff, golden-eyed farmer determined to wreck all her plans.

Eliza Attleburn has been striving for success since her parents taught her the meaning of the word. Hustling hard in corporate Boston, she was making steady progress—until a layoff, cheating boyfriend, and social implosion knocked her off-kilter in one fell swoop. Overwhelmed, she finds herself in Garnet Shores, Rhode Island, for a three-month social media position on an oyster farm. It isn’t exactly ideal, but it’s a chance to escape the storm and diversify her resume as she plans her return to corporate life. And no man is going to ruin that.

Grayson Gold’s oyster farm isn’t just some small-town spot. It’s an award-winning name, his family legacy, and the salty blood in his veins. But none of it’s guaranteed. So when a pretty, strong-willed city girl shows up for a job he never posted, looking like an echo of last year’s near-catastrophic mistake, Grayson wants her gone. The problem? His brother hired her, and Eliza refuses to leave, clashing with him head-on instead.

But as summer heats up and Eliza and Grayson keep colliding, mutual loathing transforms into something else, and what began as Eliza’s escape starts to feel more like a discovery.

Still, her future lives in Boston.

That’s what all her plans said, anyway.

Our friends at THRIVE Peninsula were running low on children's books for their (super amazing) free bookstore, but thanks to our partnership with USPS to return undeliverable books, we had a stack of 75 ready to go! The power of community in action! šŸ”šŸ“š

🌊 SIGNED BOOKPLATE WITH PURCHASE

We are SO excited to partner up with Noelle W. Ihli and offer a signed bookplate with your purchase of THE LAST TO DROWN

Five days. Twenty strangers. No way out.

The rafting trip was supposed to be the adventure of a lifetime. But Kaia’s starting to think she made a mistake.

Because ever since the whispers about Camas Creek began, all she feels is dread.

Seven years earlier, a guide murdered a group of rafters on this same isolated stretch of water. The killer’s body was recovered downstream—but the true-crime community has never stopped asking questions.

And for good reason.

The incidents start small—a flipped raft, missing supplies, and screams in the night—but the pattern is sickeningly familiar. And with eighty-four miles of whitewater until any sign of civilization, safety has never felt so far away.

Kaia suspects that one of the guides is lying. One of the guests knows more than she’s saying. And somewhere on this river, someone is planning to finish what started at Camas Creek.

One Golden Summer by Carley Fortune ā˜€ļø

I never anticipated Charlie Florek.

Good things happen at the lake. That’s what Alice’s grandmother says, and it’s true. Alice spent just one summer there at a cottage with Nan when she was seventeen—it’s where she took that photo, the one of three grinning teenagers in a yellow speedboat, the image that changed her life.

Now Alice lives behind a lens. As a photographer, she’s most comfortable on the sidelines, letting other people shine. Lately though, she’s been itching for something more, and when Nan falls and breaks her hip, Alice comes up with a plan for them both: another summer in that magical place, Barry’s Bay. But as soon as they settle in, their peace is disrupted by the roar of a familiar yellow boat, and the man driving it.

Charlie Florek was nineteen when Alice took his photo from afar. Now he’s all grown up—a shameless flirt, who manages to make Nan laugh and Alice long to be seventeen again, when life was simpler, when taking pictures was just for fun. Sun-slanted days and warm nights out on the lake with Charlie are a balm for Alice’s soul, but when she looks up and sees his piercing green gaze directly on her, she begins to worry for her heart.

Because Alice sees people—that’s why she is so good at what she does—but she’s never met someone who looks and sees her right back.

What helped me become a bookseller šŸ¤”

Lifelong Reader šŸ“š
I’ve been a reader for as long as I can remember. One of my favorite things about books is that I don’t stick to just one genre. I love bouncing between all kinds of stories and topics. Being a lifelong reader has helped me appreciate that every reader is different, and there’s a book out there for everyone.

Spreadsheets & Organization šŸ“‹
Behind every book fair, pop-up, and inventory order is a spreadsheet (or several). Organization in my workplace has always been one of my strengths, and keeping track of all the moving pieces helps everything run a little smoother behind the scenes.

Hospitality 🩵
Even as an introvert, I really enjoyed my time working in group tour sales. Helping travel coordinators plan trips to local attractions taught me how much I enjoy helping people find exactly what they’re looking for. It’s probably the people-pleaser in me, but creating a welcoming space and helping someone discover their next favorite book is one of my favorite parts of this job.

Scheduling & Finding the Right Fit 🚚
For the last 13 years, I’ve worked in transportation, scheduling truck drivers and finding loads across the United States. There’s something satisfying about finding the perfect fit. Scheduling our pop-ups and finding the right locations for our book fairs isn’t all that different. It’s also probably why our calendar is planned so far in advance!

Events & Bringing People Together šŸŽ‰
This goes hand in hand with hospitality, but before we had our daughter, we hosted all the parties. My mom is a natural event planner, and I definitely inherited that from her. Hosting book fairs at local breweries is something I genuinely love. Yes, there’s stress involved, but creating an event that brings people joy makes my heart happy every single time.

More Than Selling Books 🌊
Being a bookseller isn’t just about books. It’s about organization, hospitality, logistics, community, and creating spaces where people feel welcome. Looking back, every job and experience along the way helped prepare me for this chapter and I’m so grateful it led me here.
