Be there or be square. The Becasse Chapter of the AWS is having a field day September 13. There will be snake avoidance training for dogs, raffles, lunch, and gun dog training seminar. We’ll be set up with some gear for sale as well as donating a complete cable gang system for the raffle. Come support a revitalized chapter that is doing the work to make more quality woodcock habitat on public land.

Quality materials matter. You won’t find other tie-outs that use bigger snaps than these. We use 4” solid brass swivel snaps on all of our tie-outs, roading gear, and check cords. They’re expensive, but compromise is not an option.

Turned Velcro loose and before she even broke the plane of the woods she was pointing a woodcock. It was one of those days, early December and the birds were really showing up. She had 6 woodcock and a covey of bobwhite quail in 55 minutes. The bobs were dug into this bottom on a 10’ circle of land with standing water all around them. Amazing the spots they’ll hide after a fresh prescribed burn.

Good video from last season. Sprinkles find with Large Marge backing. Natural landscape, dogs way in on a find, cool morning, hunting with my kid. Dogs acting broke without saying a single word 🙌🏼. Priceless moments happening every day in the bird woods! You know it’s getting closer to that time.

Watching Nibbles for a few days for my buddy Paul. She got some time on the table on the FF rig just running up and down the bench and getting confident up there. She also spent some time on the gang every day with my dogs and ate every meal on it. Conditioning to make the gang a “place” where you can eat, relax, and just think about things happening around you. She enjoyed the loves from my daughter as well. Good exposure for a young dog, being away from home for a week, around other dogs, and different situations and routines.

Building endurance and focus. Depending on where you’re located, roading season might be in full swing. We’re getting in short sessions when temperatures permit, and keeping the dogs hydrated and watching them closely. Night time and rainy weather are the main windows we have for roading mid summer in Louisiana. We wet our dogs down before, during, and after roading sessions in summer. Having water is also important, but only giving them a few laps to wet their mouth and aid in evaporative cooling while panting. Over watering during roading can be a bad thing. Be safe, and get those dogs ready!
