'In Trees: An Exploration' by Robert Moor

"To truly grasp the wisdom of a tree, you need to begin thinking like one…"

It began with a whim. One day Robert Moor decided to climb a tree near his home. A decade later he had scaled a giant sequoia with Sir David Attenborough, slept one very uncomfortable night in a chimpanzee nest in Tanzania, and fallen in with climate activists fighting to save an old-growth forest from a pipeline. 'In Trees' is the book that came from this decade of exploration and, in our opinion, it is the most original book about trees in the last 10 years.

Special mentions this week are:

Annie Leonard stopped by this weekend and signed a stack of her new book, 'Protest: Respect It, Defend It, Use It'.

You may know Annie as the author of 'The Story of Stuff'. This one, written with André Carothers and published by Patagonia, is a beautifully illustrated history of dissent — more than forty protests spanning from a Quaker abolitionist in 1738 to Colin Kaepernick taking a knee, with essays from Jane Fonda, Dolores Huerta, Rebecca Solnit, and Nemonte Nenquimo, and an afterword by Robert Reich. Kirkus called it "an excellent introduction to the power of public dissent."

Signed copies are on display in the store while they last. Come find one.

Ten years ago, Robert Moor climbed a tree near his home and apparently forgot to come all the way back down. The book that came out of it — 'In Trees: An Exploration' — has him scaling sequoias with David Attenborough, spending one very uncomfortable night in a chimpanzee nest, and so much more.

On Thursday, September 17 at 6:00 pm, he's coming to the Dungeness River Nature Center to talk about it with Lynda Mapes ( environment reporter, author of 'The Trees Are Speaking').

What a glorious week to be a book lover! We have a fantastic assortment of new releases. Some of our favorites are:

-'Penelope Rex vs. The New Kid', book five in Ryan T. Higgins Penelope Rex series of children's picture books. This time around, Penelope is no longer the only dinosaur in her school of humans - what is a rex to do?!

-'Back for Blood: Never Whistle at Night Part II: An Indigenous Horror Anthology', edited by Shane Hawk and Theodore C Van Alst Jr., is the much-anticipated follow to the Indigenous horror anthology 'Never Whistle At Night'! If you need something to chill your bones, this book will deliver.

-'Palestine: A Primer', by Rashid Khalidi, is an young adult adaption of his book 'Hundred Years' War on Palestine'. Perfect for a young person who wants to learn more about the country they see on the news.

-'Automatic Noodle' by Annalee Newitz is out in paperback! A hopepunk story about a group of deactivated robots who come back online in a ghost kitchen and decide to make tasty hand-pulled noodles for the humans in their vicinity. This a cozy and delicious read.
