Some photos are just too special not to recreate.

When we (Jeremy & Courtney) took over Fly It Port A in 2022, we gained so much more than a kite shop. Ralph and Suanne generously shared their knowledge, experience, and love for this business, helping us continue the tradition they started back in 1991.

We’re incredibly grateful for the trust they placed in us and for the opportunity to carry their legacy forward.

🪁 Meet the people who started it all. ❤️

In 1991, Ralph and Suanne took a leap of faith and opened a little kite shop in Port Aransas. They couldn’t have known then that their dream would grow into a place where generations of families would make memories together.

As we celebrate 35 years of Fly It Port A, we want to say thank you to the two people who started it all. Their vision, hard work, and love for kites created something truly special, and we’re honored to carry that legacy forward.

We know many of you have asked how they’re doing these days, so here’s an update!

Today, Ralph and Suanne are happily retired in Boerne, Texas. Ralph enjoys bowling in a league, working in the yard, and feeding the birds. Suanne stays active in her community and serves as the chair of a local county organization. She also enjoys going birding whenever she gets the chance.

🪁 Then & Now… 35 Years of Fly It Port A! 🎂

Our first photo (yellow trim) takes us back to our original little kite shop at Ave G & 10th Street, where Fly It Port A called home from 1991 to around 1997. Ralph, the previous owner, painted the murals himself!

The second photo (blue trim) is our former shop at 405 W Ave G. Many of you will remember this building, it stood here until Hurricane Harvey destroyed it in 2017. The shop you visit today was rebuilt on that same spot and reopened in 2019, beginning a new chapter while keeping the same Fly It Port A spirit alive. ❤️

So much has changed over the years… but one thing hasn’t: our love of kites and the amazing people who’ve made this little shop so special.
