How do you light a palm without it looking like a stage set?
Palms are the trickiest thing in a Florida landscape to light well, and the reason is the canopy. Hit it straight on at full output and you get a flat green disc floating in the dark.
What actually works:
→ Place fixtures off-axis, not directly beneath the trunk
→ Use two at different distances so the canopy has near and far light
→ Let some fronds fall into shadow — an evenly lit canopy looks artificial
→ Aim to graze the trunk on the way up; the texture is half the appeal
Done right, a lit palm reads like a palm. Done wrong, it reads like a light aimed at a palm.
