Forty years ago today, I unlocked the doors to a dream.
I can still remember the feeling — equal parts terror and excitement — as I flipped the sign to “Open” for the very first time. I didn’t know what the future would hold. I just knew that I loved music, I loved records, and I wanted to own a place where those two things could bring people together.
Back then, vinyl was king. We’d spend hours talking about new releases, debating which album was a band's best, carefully placing the needle down on albums from artists like AC/DC, Guns 'n' Roses, and Metallica. Music wasn’t just background noise — it was something you held in your hands, studied, shared, and cherished.
Over the years, we’ve weathered it all. The rise of CDs. The fall of vinyl. The digital wave. Streaming. And then — in the most beautiful twist — the return of records and a whole new generation discovering the magic of analog sound and physical media.
Through every era, what has mattered most isn’t just the music. It’s you.
It’s the customers who became regulars, and the regulars who became friends. It’s the teenagers who spent their first paychecks here and now bring in their own kids. It’s the conversations at the counter, the quiet afternoons flipping through record crates, and the excitement of a packed store on Record Store Day.
This store has never been just a business. It’s been a community. A clubhouse. A sanctuary for music lovers.
I’m overwhelmed with gratitude — for the artists who gave us the music, for the staff ( past and present ) who poured their hearts into this place, and for every single person who has walked through our doors over the past 40 years.
Thank you for supporting independent music. Thank you for still believing in brick-and-mortar stores. Thank you for keeping vinyl spinning. Thank you for keeping TJ's CDS & More or back in the day TJ's Records in your heart.
Forty years later, I still feel that same spark when I unlock the door each morning.

With my upcoming 40th anniversary of opening my shop, March 5, 1986. I have had some cool t-shirts made. I have 72 of them at $10.00 a piece. 48 white with black ink and 24 black shirts with white ink. Let me know what you think. TJ.
