FYI NEVER borrow or loan a carpet shampooer. In over 40 years of business, I have found that when they are loaned out or when you borrow one, that is when they break down. Many of them are not repairable (because repair parts are not available). If they are repairable, the work is tedious and parts are expensive. You are better off buying your own, or renting. Don't make someone else's problem your problem. There is a Bissell being sold at most of the department stores and box stores that runs close to $300.00, the cord is already unavailable. So if you run over the cord or damage it, you are out the entire unit. Research.....

FYI A close friend purchased a shampooer from a big box store on line. I advised her on the model to purchase. When she received it, it was gooey with old soap, and the plastic water containers were fogged from use. She did not buy used or remanufactured, so she took it back to the big box store. They were not very polite since she was not returning to the on line store, but she explained she wanted to see the unit before she bought and so was going to purchase from the store. The store claimed to have the same model, but the same model did not come with the same included products of the on line purchase. I find all this very odd. Consumers Review says that the same model number will be the same wherever you purchase it. Obviously, this is not true. The box was not previously opened, but the contents were less than I, as a dealer, have in the same model. In addition, I have to wonder why they represent a used cleaner as new. It is my policy to tell the customer that an item has been used in someone's home and is either remanufactured or used and discounted. I plan to thoroughly investigate this. When buying on line something may be 10.00 cheaper because it is.

FYI Watch those internet reviews. Just checking the reviews posted on carpet shampooers. The 10 best, The Top 5, Etc. First of all, none of them seem to agree. But worst than that, about half the models they are reviewing as Top 10 are trouble machines with little or no easy recourse. We have been repairing for years, and some companies say that if you have purchased any of their red shampooers, an authorized repair station cannot fix it. It must be sent back to the company. 2 other units last for about 2 cleanings and cannot be repaired. Another company does not release any parts for repairs. Who gave these units 5 stars? Absolutely impossible.

FYI More and more people have bought the battery operated stick vacs, because they are light and you can get under furniture. That is true, but they are not known for deep cleaning. That aside, since most people do not read their instructions, I will give you some tips to give your battery a longer life. Battery replacement can be as much as $100.00.

1. Store your vac at room temperature. Temperature changes can kill your battery.
2. Clean your filter after each use. If it is clogged and the vac is running warm, that can shorten the life of your battery.
3. If you have plush carpet and the new soft fiber carpets, battery operated is not for you.
4. Don't let the charge run down frequently. After use, recharge. Using with a low battery is too much work for the equipment.
