I recently got back in the soap room after about a 5 month hiatus. The first batch I made was unscented pumpkin for folks with sensitivities, then Peppermint Dreams (Christmas) soap, then lilac dreams. I'm working on Wintergreen Dreams tonight for more Christmas soaps. I'll post some pictures.

: A newly discovered species of crab in Western Australia — named Lamarckdromia beagle after Charles Darwin's famous ship — wears a living sponge on its head like a cap. The sponge's biochemicals help ward off predators.

After picking up a sea sponge, these fluffy, beige-brown crabs cut them down to size with their claws, perch them on their heads and proceed to wear them indefinitely. Snazzy!

A grandson of slaves, a boy was born in a poor neighborhood of New Orleans known as the "Back of Town." His father abandoned the family when the child was an infant. His mother became a pr******te and the boy and his sister had to live with their grandmother.

Early in life he proved to be gifted for music and with three other kids he sang in the streets of New Orleans. His first gains were coins that were thrown to them.

A Jewish family, Karnofsky, who had emigrated from Lithuania to the USA, had pity for the 7-year-old boy and brought him into their home. Initially giving 'work' in the house, to feed this hungry child. There he remained and slept in this Jewish family's home where, for one of the first times in his life, he was treated with kindness and tenderness.

When he went to bed, Mrs. Karnovsky sang him a Russian lullaby that he would sing with her. Later, he learned to sing and play several Russian and Jewish songs. Over time, this boy became like an adopted son of this family.

The Karnofskys gave him money to buy his first musical instrument, as was the custom in the Jewish families. They sincerely admired his musical talent. Later, when he became a professional musician and composer, he used Jewish melodies in some of his compositions.
The young black boy grew up and wrote a book about this Jewish family who had adopted him in 1907. In memory of this family, and until the end of his life, he wore a Star of David and said that in this family he had learned "how to live real life and determination."

You might recognize his name. This little boy was called Louis "Satchmo" Armstrong. Louis Armstrong proudly spoke fluent Yiddish and "Satchmo" is Yiddish for "big cheeks, a nickname some say was given to him by Mrs. Karnofsky!
I was listening to What a Wonderful World
Song by Louis Armstrong and wanted to share the story.

We still have a couple of pumpkin spice bars left, but I finally made some more soap last night (pictured still in the mold) for Valentine's Day and Mother's Day. It smells so good! I used the following essential oils: sweet orange, bergamot, cinnamon leaf, rosemary and eucalyptus.

Halloween and pumpkin spice soaps are now in the shop! Also, the pink heart moon was a failed design but still smells good. A few lumberjack love soaps are available as well as a few others. I will gear up and make more when I return from my road trip.

I'm so excited to finally announce that I was commissioned to make 25 wedding shower soaps for my cousin's daughter's surprise shower yesterday! After a design fail, I went back to basics and produced these lovelies and they loved them. Yay!

The recipe itself is my Into The Woods bar set in heart molds instead of the loaf cut pieces. I also dusted them with shimmering gold mica dust and put them in gold mesh bags that had hearts on them. Then I printed and affixed the labels that day "From Brittany's Shower to Yours."

Such a fun project! So glad that my cousin entrusted me to pull this off for her very important occasion.

I finally got back into the soap room and started making soap again. After a terrible result (some of you will be the beneficiary of some free soap soon, lol), I went back to basics and used a tried and true recipe to fulfill a very special order. Next week, I'm going to be a little nervous until it gets to its destination, but it's so nice getting creative again.
