Friends and family, part PSA, part rant follows... sorry

I just got off the phone with Evan and heard another horror story of someone being overcharged for service on their garage door. It breaks my heart thinking about all the people who are being ripped off by unscrupulous companies. If the customer would have waited until Monday for Evan to get out there, it would have cost them an $85 service call. Instead, they went with the company that could come out today and paid over $500!!!! This was not an emergency repair, no cars were stuck in the garage, the door was basically working. Some lubrication and minor adjustments would have been sufficient. Instead they paid a $135 service call, plus $250 in parts, PLUS labor!!!

For goodness sake, please get estimates or pricing information from multiple companies before having people come out. Some of these garage door companies pay their employees commission. Let that sink in. THEY GET PAID TO SELL. An honest company will send a skilled and experienced technician trained to repair and service your door, not a 'salesman' who will sell you as many parts as they can. If a company wants to charge your credit card a $135 NON-REFUNDABLE service call just to make the appointment, for goodness sake DO NOT use them. DO NOT give a company your credit card information before they even come check the job. They know you aren't going to like what the salesman says when he gets there and THIS IS HOW THEY GET YOU. You have already paid the NON-REFUNDABLE fee and will feel pressured to not 'lose' that money by cancelling the job. The poor guy from today still would have saved money by telling them to get lost and eating the $135 fee.

Also, please please please... Make sure you hire a licensed garage door CONTRACTOR to repair your garage door. A handyman is NOT qualified to do the work. A business tax receipt is NOT a contractor's license. Garage doors can be dangerous. They can be deadly. You do not want anyone who is not properly licensed and properly insured working on your garage door.

End of PSA. Love you all!

Every day, and I mean every single day, at least one customer says or does something that just touches my heart. I have to tell y'all... Tonight I was brought to tears. One of 'my boys', a 13 year old who is in here quite often and always by himself (parent in the car while he shops), came in and brought his mom in with him. They brought me an apple pie for Thanksgiving. How sweet and thoughtful! I am so thankful for our little fishing family and community.

I want all of our customers to know how thankful we are for all of you, always. Black Friday is in 2 days and that will be followed by Small Business Saturday. We are going to start a couple of our specials early, tomorrow. We will be open from 6:00 am until noonish. All rods, reels, and combos will be 10% off. All nets will be 10% off. All jewelry will be 20% off.

Thank you for supporting our small business.
