Izzy is looking for her person.
She's currently a bookstore cat who would very much like to stop being one!
Izzy came to us in rough shape as a tiny barn kitten with her littermates. Worms, fleas, lice, ringworm, Giardia, an upper respiratory infection, an eye infection, scared, skinny and dehydrated. Kittens usually come in with one or two of those, maybe three. These kittens had all of them, and we honestly didn't expect them to make it. One of our fosters took them home, put a huge amount of time into them, and got them healthy.
Izzy came back to the bookstore, and eventually she went home with a family. Life circumstances changed though, as they sometimes do, and we got her back about 3 and a half years ago. Her former kids still come to visit, and she is very sweet with them. She's about 8 years old now.
Izzy is a lot of cat, in both directions. She can be a bit of a cactus with a very soft interior, and you just have to be nice to her to get there.
She really is one of the more affectionate cats we've had. She loves to be petted, and she will talk to you all about it, then she will sleep on your lap for hours.
She also has strong opinions about how she's handled, and isn't shy about enforcing her boundaries. She has been known to nibble, though she doesn't bite hard.
She is very much sweet and very spicy, and she means both completely.
Izzy also really likes to ride on shoulders, and she is very insistent about it. She often tends to pick the customers who like cats the least, which is either bad luck or excellent comedic timing.
Izzy wants to be queen of her own domain, and she can be a bit of a drama queen at times. Dogs are beneath her, so those are usually fine, as long as they treat her with respect. Other cats challenge her authority, though, so those are absolutely not allowed.
School age kids who are gentle with cats and see them as family (not toys) are fine with her.
She really just needs someone who will appreciate her style of love, think the prickly side is kind of charming, and give her a lap to claim. We think she has the potential to be someone’s heart cat, and we suspect that without other cats around, the prickly side would mostly fade. She just can't stand being picked on, and we can't say as we blame her.
Unfortunately, in the bookstore there's always a cat somewhere nearby, and she doesn't like any of them. One in particular enjoys staring at her on purpose. And we do have visitors who don’t like cats, so it can be a challenge to keep her away from them.
We've made her as happy as we can here, but she deserves a home where she isn't low-key stressed all day.
