Behold the earthen portals of Portland’s own, Maggie Irwin.
:.

We are honored to host a selection of captivating color studies from this buoyant restauranteur-artiste.

Irwin is perhaps best known for her delectable & longed-for St. Johns haunt, Pastificio d’Oro - though lately she’s been exploring a newfound culinary project in the form of a French Cajun pop-up called Ma Cher, with her partner Chase, from inside the acclaimed Dame restaurant. But Maggie’s creativity clearly expands far beyond her coveted salad dressing, while still holding the same humble, well-considered, and deceptively-complex ex*****on as her food.

Painted in acrylic & pastel, these “Portals” explore radial color theory in a way that simultaneously awakens, transports and grounds the viewer. They are meditations on curiosity and acceptance, translated in a style that lives outside of time, while nodding to mystical painters of the past like Hilma Af Klint and Sonia Delaunay.

Consider us enchanted.

As we go into our darkest season during the darkest time this country has seen, celebrating what connects us & makes us human -the arts- seems more important than ever.

View Irwin’s work in-person during our shop hours, and coming soon, online at shoplyko.com.

Add some charm to your holiday with a unique piece of Grandma’s loving art, respectfully reclaimed by the modern maker.
These stockings were made from beautiful antique cutter quilts by local slow fashion designer, Old Aurora, whom we adore.

Old Aurora is the womyn-owned design-work studio of expert handcrafter, Molly Georgetta ~ Portland, Oregon.
We’ve been working with Molly since we opened and are always amazed by her eye for design paired with deft ex*****on. Coincidentally she is also an absolutely delightful human and wonderful small batch maker to support if you’re trying to stay off that fast fashion sh**.

Today is the day my dad’s oldest sister gave birth on a bridge in Salem, Oregon - to a truly magical creature.
Today we celebrate my dear cousin who is also one of my best friends in this wild world.
We call this creature, Katie.
🧚
She has been the most constant supporter and collaborator of my little Shop Lyko Slow Goods, since its very inception. It’s so very lucky that we love to work together as much as we love to play together. Maybe because we always like to mix the two. Maybe it’s because our Grandma Betty also loved art and vintage, as does the whole damn family!
If you’ve met KT working one of our events slanging vintage, or frolicking around the hills of Pickathon- you know she’s got the riz kids. She most likely made you laugh and feel seen like only she can.
Cheers to our bridge bb, Katie Chesley.
Love you cousin, sisterish, collaborator, friend. jpg

Wrap up in rad grandma’s hope garden. :.
Quilt remnant design is pretty quintessential slow fashion but there’s something about the nostalgic daydream of this particular quilt, paired with the modernity of a hoodie cut, that feels really awake to history somehow. Maybe it reveals the false safety of the white picket fence while still embracing its optimism. Maybe it reconfigures that American daydream into a utilitarian abstract that welcomes all, and that’s pretty rad. Thanks grandma. You’ve really got us thinkin’.

Just wanted to share this gift of film captures from around the shop lately - taken by photographer & coffee roaster ✨ :.
There’s something about film photography that makes me feel nostalgic for the moment I’m in. Maybe it’s because each shot is precious, chasing the light. It’s a lot like the ethos of this little slow goods shop; unhurried & soaked in humanity. Nostalgic for a time that perhaps never existed, yet somehow it’s happening right now.

Serendipity smiled + dropped the amazing upcycled vintage designer into our little Shop Lyko world. :.
As soon as Taylor walked in we were riffing on astrology, farm life, craft culture and plant medicine for our tender hearts. I quickly realized that she was the perfect maker to breathe new life into the backyard shed with her quintessential slow fashion. Plus she comes with two sweet pups that stick to her like Velcro & we all know dogs have great taste in character. :.
You’ll get to see this slow fashion queen working the shop a few days a month, so come by and welcome her to St John’s!
