Marigold Coffee is a small business with a small platform but we have big feelings about the direction this country is going.

It’s not a business as usual kind of moment. We made the decision as a team to be closed May 1st (with pay) to be in solidarity with the many other workers, students, families and businesses who are choosing to participate in some way on this day.

Because Marigold doesn’t currently operate a retail location the decision to close tomorrow (May 1st) was a relatively easy one.

To our fellow small business partners and friends who are staying open because closing simply isn’t an option in this tough economic climate, we love ya and 100% understand. We’re rooting for you and want you to thrive and survive these difficult times. To anyone working tomorrow who would rather strike but can’t risk their livelihood, we see you too!

To our loyal and beloved customers, please consider spending your money tomorrow locally with other small businesses to show support for community. Please consider using cash.

If you were planning on buying coffee from us on Friday (May 1st) please consider buying it today or Saturday instead. The idea is to disrupt financial transactions as much as possible on May Day and to send a message that we have collective power.

How participate in democracy and community is a practice. This day of action might start off small and with some wobbles, but it’s a start.

Prices are rising every where you turn.

But some good news: Marigold is on sale this spring at local grocery stores across Portland.

We have so many great coffees in our lineup! We want to give you a little encouragement to try something new or even the chance to stock up.

This April, we’re on promotion at Cherry Sprout in NE Portland, one of Marigold’s dearest and longest partnerships. Cherry Sprout is a neighborhood gem with loads of charm and personality, carrying the freshest produce and locally sourced goods.

We’re also on sale at World Foods in the Pearl. A true destination for imported specialty products, high-end chocolates, a huge selection of locally roasted coffees, and their fresh, in-house prepared deli foods (shout out Ya Hala Lebanese Cuisine). Bonus, they serve Marigold on bar at their most delightful in-store cafe!

More sales happening all Spring here in Portland. Check back for dates and locations in the coming months.

Marigold Coffee stands in solidarity with the ICE OUT National Strike, Friday Jan. 30th.

In solidarity we will donate 20% of all online sales on Friday to the Women’s Foundation of Minnesota’s Immigrant Rapid Response Fund.

We also stand in solidarity with our fellow small business colleagues and partners and understand that each business has to balance a number of nuanced reasons whether or not to close this Friday.

Please continue to support independently owned restaurants, cafes and retailers and service providers of all stripes as the line between staying solvent and closing is razor thin these days.

And it just so happens that the tasting notes are beautifully coordinated with a nod to wintery delights.

Aromas of juniper, candy cane and cola!

REGION: Quindio, Colombia
PROCESS: washed - sequential carbonic maceration.

An absolutely stunning cup profile that has great clarity of flavor and a very “clean” finish.

How is it processed? While still technically a washed coffee, this is not your typical process. Coffee cherries from  are harvested and soaked in water for 4 hours to clean the exterior of the fruit, sort out floaters and hydrate the fruit. The fruit is then put into an anaerobic environment to undergo the initial carbonic macerated fermentation, then removed from the tank and depulped. The mucilage-covered coffee is then submerged in water for final washed processing.

About the farm: Finca Campo Hermoso has been in Edwin Norena’s family for over 30 years. After his father passed away, Edwin began developing the farm for unique specialty coffees. Edwin has become a prominent innovator for Colombian specialty coffees. In addition to overseeing his farm, Edwin is a Q Grader and processor (similar to being a wine sommelier, but for coffee) and Cup of Excellence judge.

Are you looking to simultaneously learn how to taste and roast coffee while also knocking out your holiday shopping? Look no further.

In this hands-on workshop, participants will dip their toes into coffee quality assurance and roast profile development, and will be able to roast, package, and label their own bags of personally roasted coffee (15-20 0.75lb bags).
