Onyx & Amber Single Barrels

Welcome to Oregon Onyx and Amber! Here we have 4(!) single barrels that I was so fortunate to be able to take part in helping pick. The same group of degenerates that I was with back in January for the Laws pick also had O&A on the docket. Benjamin Rosen was awesome, had some great barrels for us to taste from, let us hang out at the tasting room with our Popeyes to refuel, and was just a great host overall. They’re doing some super cool things at O&A, watch out. And stop by if you’re in Denver ever, I know I can’t wait to go back.

Now, about these barrels👀We chose two bourbons and two American light whiskies.

Barrel MGA01-108 and MGA01-110 are the two light whiskies. Both are 99 corn/1 malted barley, distilled 03/2005 and aged in Indiana at what was then known as the Seagrams Distillery - what we all know now as MGP. Aged the last 9 months in Colorado. Dumped in 05/2026. 108 was bottled at 136.6(68.30%) proof and yielded 84 bottles. 110 was bottled at 138.7(69.35%) proof and yielded 120 bottles.

Barrel WFB01-262B. 72 corn/13 rye/15 malted barley. Distilled 11/2017. Put in a Cabernet barrel in 2021 for the last 5yrs. Aged in CO the last 8 months. Dumped 05/2026. Bottled at 116.7(58.35%) proof with 96 bottles from the barrel.

Barrel WTB02-102. 75 corn/13 rye/12 malted barley. 8+ year old Wild Turkey distillate aged at Castle & Key, then in CO before bottling in 05/2026. Bottled at 120.1(60.05%) proof. 120 bottles.

I held some back for the store after the group grabbed what they wanted, so here’s your chance to scoop up the first of the Onyx & Amber picks in OR. One per of each barrel, there’s only about 24 of each left. And keep your eyes out, maybe there might be some more coming later down the road😎🥃🥃

A few months back, I was invited by Dan from (RIP to the bar) to join him in sampling the whiskey for this BiB pick. We agreed on this:

Barrel No. 8032178. Aged in Rickhouse 1K - Floor 4 for 7yrs. Bottled at 100(50%) proof. 222 bottles🥃🥃

Ron Colón Red Banana Oleo

Inspired by the shade-giving red banana trees all around the coffee farms in El Salvador. This aged rum is infused with banana peel oleo saccharum - a tropical flavored syrup derived from macerating banana peels in sugar for 24-48hrs. Red bananas are said to taste like a regular banana with a hint of raspberry sweetness. Or like a cross between a plantain and yellow banana. Bottled at 81(40.5%) proof

Laws Cask Strength Single Barrel Bourbon

Back in January, I was invited to go along with a bunch of degenerates😁 to Denver, CO to do some barrel pickin’. was one of the distilleries we went to, and man, do they have some tasty juice. I have been a fan of Laws for a few years, but most of the rest of the group hadn’t tried their stuff yet. So when we got there and Sam, Laws Head Distiller, tasted us through some barrels, it was great to see some eyes get opened. We ended up with two barrels that day. This one, and another that will be here later this year👀🌾🍊

Barrel No. 1252. Four grain mash bill, 60% corn, 20% wheat, 10% rye, 10% malted two-row barley. Barrel filled 12/12/16 at 110(55%) proof. Dumped on 3/27/26. Bottled at 142.4(71.2%) proof🔥🥃 Was a short barrel, only 96 bottles. The group snagged most of it, but there are 12 bottles left. When it’s gone, it’s gone.

A huge thank you to all the folks at Laws who helped us get this done. I know I’m super excited to finally have it in state.
