In this lovely 6-week foundational course, Jane will teach you the basics of astrology, including its history, zodiac signs, rulerships, houses, planets, and aspects. In this low-key class you with be learning in a fun, hands-on way for practice & cultivating community. We will spend time going over students birth charts as a class together. Because of the personal nature of the information, Jane will not be recording the class.

Jane is the author of the award-winning book Love Never Dies: A Psychic Artist Illustrates Stories of the Afterlife. She is a devoted grandmother, avid gardener, beekeeper, and accomplished artist. Community Reiki Healing Circle: An Experiential Evening of Relaxation and Energy Renewal with Kim Costill and Ryda Thuch

Take a pause from the busyness of daily life and step into a calm, supportive space for relaxation and energetic renewal. In this experiential Reiki circle, practitioners Kim Costill (Balanced Vibes) and Ryda Thuch (Reiki by Ryda) will guide participants through a gentle grounding meditation before offering group Reiki in a peaceful community setting.

Participants will be invited to relax comfortably while receiving Reiki energy intended to support balance, calm the nervous system, and encourage the body’s natural ability to restore itself. The evening will close with quiet reflection and an opportunity to share experiences if desired.

This event is open to everyone—no prior Reiki experience is necessary. Simply come as you are and allow yourself time to rest, receive, and reconnect.

Kim Costill is the founder of Balanced Vibes, a Reiki Master practitioner and educator who creates welcoming spaces for individuals to slow down, reconnect with themselves, and experience the calming effects of energy healing. She hold individual Reiki sessions in the South Portland area and hosts Reiki shares and community healing events focused on grounding, balance, and nervous system support.

Ryda Thuch is the founder of Reiki by Ryda and a Reiki Master practitioner dedicated to creating warm, supportive healing environments through her individual practice and hosts community Reiki events and circles designed to help people relax, restore their energy, and experience the benefits of Reiki in a group setting.

Recess is an all-ages gathering centered on play, creativity, connection and nervous-system regulation. Through movement, meditation, sounding, music, art and spontaneous creative exploration, we create space to step outside the usual demands of daily life and reconnect with curiosity, presence and play.

Shared instruments and art supplies are available, and bringing your own instruments, art supplies or other creative tools is encouraged. There is no prescribed way to participate. You may make sound, move, create, meditate, observe, rest or follow whatever form of expression feels natural in the moment.

Recess is not about performance or producing something. It is an opportunity to explore, regulate, connect and experience creativity in community.

All ages are welcome.

Jillian and Sydan create spaces centered on play, creativity, connection, authenticity, embodied presence, and nervous-system regulation. Through movement, meditation, sounding, music, art, and spontaneous exploration, they invite people of all ages to reconnect with curiosity, authentic self-expression, and the simple freedom of being fully present.

Their approach is experiential, inclusive, and non-hierarchical. It’s less about being taught what to do and more about creating the conditions for people to show up as they are, explore freely, connect genuinely, and discover what feels alive for them.

Within every lineage are individuals who carried wisdom, guidance, courage, healing, and insight. Although their names and stories may sometimes be forgotten, their influence can remain within the family line.

Through guided meditation, participants journey more deeply into their ancestral tree to explore this stream of wisdom and connect with a guiding figure or presence within the lineage.

The practice is intended to deepen trust in inner guidance while cultivating a greater sense of ancestral connection, wisdom, and support.

Oleksandr Dmytruk is a Portland-based shamanic practitioner, astral healer, Qigong teacher, and founder of ASCEND. His work explores the relationship between ancestral wisdom, energy practices, meditation, and personal transformation. Through guided experiential practices, he creates spaces for participants to deepen self-awareness, reconnect with inner and ancestral resources, and explore their own path of growth and transformation.

We had the joy of a visit from a neighborhood kitty this week on the porch of New Renaissance Bookshop! While we sadly cannot invite our feline friends into the shop, due to allergy concerns, we always treasure the opportunity to say hello as they are passing through.

All friendly dogs, however, are more than welcome at New Renaissance! We keep a stash of treats on hand and very much look forward to meeting each and every canine companion.

The Harvest Moon has long been welcomed as a companion to the harvest, its bright evening light helping extend the work of gathering the season’s abundance. It reminds us that our own lives move through seasons as well, offering moments to pause, reflect, celebrate what has flourished, and gently release what has fulfilled its purpose.
We’ll begin with a guided EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) meditation to help quiet the mind, soften emotional burdens, and gather the wisdom of your own inner harvest with gratitude and compassion. From there, you’ll be immersed in a restorative sound bath featuring crystal singing bowls, chimes, hypnotic percussion, and other resonant instruments, creating a space for deep relaxation, reflection, and renewal.

Whether you’re honoring personal growth, seeking clarity for the season ahead, or simply longing for a peaceful evening of rest, this Harvest Moon gathering invites you to reconnect with yourself, embrace the gifts of the changing season, and leave feeling grounded, nourished, and open to whatever comes next.

All humans and all experience levels welcome and treasured. Bring whatever comfort items you wish such as mat or blanket, however there will be some items to borrow.

Charlie Short is a professional musician and Certified Sound Practitioner whose work bridges music theory, acoustic science, and intuitive guidance to compose immersive sound journeys. Each experience is intentionally crafted through harmonic relationships, rhythm, resonance, and entrainment to support nervous system regulation while meeting the unique energy of the group.
