It’s getting a little creepy over here!! Mark and I decided to use 3D renderings of our faces to make clay prints as part of this project. Our friend generously made this happen for us with his patience and amazing technology. First, he scanned our faces, then uploaded the images onto his computer. And then he did something magical and another machine started to 3D print our faces, life size.
After the faces were printed, I rolled out slabs of clay, ripped off sections, and pressed the slabs onto the renderings. As I pulled away the slabs, our faces seemed unrecognizable as our own, pulled and misshapen, partial sections, warped and maybe even grotesque.
We are using this project to explore the relationship between ourselves, the outside environment, the barriers of the external world and how we mimic those structures in ourselves. As we look around, and incorporate outside factors into our lives, they can be weights or wings, satisfaction or sadness. We will install our sculpture this week- I’m excited to share the rest of the process!
