We take much pride in the wonderful, earthy wool stuffing that we put in our handmade creatures! Washing the wool is a process most folks don't realize we do, so we thought it might be nice to share. :)

We start with a bag of wool ethically sheared from local Oregon sheep. It starts out quite dirty! There's usually quite a bit of dried mud, little pokey bits of branches, twigs,grass, moss, and seeds. I love washing the wool because all of these beautiful, natural things remind me what a happy life the sheep had, adventuring around the farmland!

It is a very grounding experience, hands in the soapy, muddy water, swishing around all the loamy evidence of a natural life. Even the lanolin that makes my hands feel sticky after makes me happy because it came from a sweet, innocent, fluffy animal. Kind of smells like wet dog, but it lends the experience a sense of corporeal oneness with the land and the animals that roam upon it.

By the end of the washing, there are still a few remnants of earth, a seed here and there, a bit of moss, but it's clean, raw wool that gives the critters we stuff with it a deeply grounded vibe and a mushroom-cushion feel. 🍄

Anyhow, know that when you buy one of our little handmade plush owls, bunnies, pocket critters, or woodland pups, this heavenly fluff is hiding inside. ✨
