HOLIDAY HOURS open every day, 10-5, except Christmas and New Year’s Day. Closing January 4th. Summer hours: Thursday through Saturday, 10-4 or by appointment. Rabelais is an antiquarian bookshop specialized in cookery, gastronomy, wine & spirits, and farming & gardening. We buy and sell unusual books on all fields related to food and drink, and work with clients worldwide to source rare books, man

uscripts and ephemera and develop private collections. We also appraise books and archives in these and other fields. We are members of the Antiquarian Booksellers' Association of America, The International League of Antiquarian Booksellers, The Ephemera Society of America, The Bibliographical Society of America, and the Maine Organic Farmers' and Gardeners' Association.

If you’ve visited Rabelais on Washington Avenue, you’ve certainly met Emma Cousins, an indispensable part of our team. Emma and her friend Sam Wells (cabinet maker, occasional bookshop sitter, and owner of .bags ) will be opening Total Loss Books in the space Rabelais currently occupies.
