Mountain Shop

Mountain Shop The Pacific Northwest's Source for outdoor equipment, knowledge and service since 1937.

Mountain Shop was founded in 1937 by local climber/skier Everett Darr and his wife. Together they imported pitons and crampons from Europe and made climbing packs for their friends. Through several owners and locations, Mountain Shop has remained a locally owned and operated store, making it the oldest (that we know of) shop of its kind in the country.

🎥 MOVIE NIGHT 🎥From the Ground Up

A film following indigenous Peruvian women deep into the Andes, where they are remaking local mountaineering culture from within.

📍 Mountain Shop
📅 Thursday 09/03
🕒 6:30-8pm

This film by Rachel Blair and Skyler Purwins follows indigenous Peruvian mountaineers Yudith Mamani and Lixayda Vásquez deep into Peru's Cordillera Vilcanota, tracing their origins in the indigenous territories of the country to the highest peaks of the Andes. There, they have cut their teeth as formidable mountaineers and pursued careers in the mountains their ancestors revered as holy places — carrying with them a personal connection to the land as a living environment. The film offers a window into how mountaineering culture in one of the world's most storied ranges is shifting toward mentorship and community among Andean women.

👋 Meet Barry! (Although, witnessing interactions at the shop for the last several months, it would appear that many of you already have met Barry. We suspect he’s one of those people that can’t go anywhere without bumping into someone he knows.)

He's an avid backpacker, dirt biker, mountain biker, skier, and human Tripadvisor (srsly if you need a recommendation for literally anything, ask this guy).

And although he’s relatively new at Mountain Shop, he’s no noob to the outdoor industry. He’s an industry vet with years of experience and a very hot take on pizza.
