Peter Rehberg, creative mind behind the amazing Editions Mego label () and outstanding electronic musician has died of a heart attack. 😿 He was only 53 years old. Here he is outside a couple of years ago with his friend and collaborator, . He was playing a show here in Portland and Daniel brought him by the shop to visit. He picked up a Moffenmix and an Intensifies pedal too! If you are unfamiliar with Editions Mego, it is a wide-ranging treasure trove of electronic music. My favorite electronic music label. RIP, Peter.

Another Criterion Channel recommendation: Babylon (1980, London). Unreleased in the US (until now) due to its blistering, uncompromising look at black life and Jamaican Sound-System culture amid Thatcher era racism/police brutality in Brixton/London. It also has the best dub soundtrack (scored by Dennis Bovell) of any film I've ever seen. A fascinating, disturbing film with absolutely killer music- highly recommended!

Made this one a "Farewell Edition", it includes a ton of extras (including a pair of 1/4" light/dark sensors, sweep the wavetable!) and every piece of Swag that m0ffenzeef and Mod 8 have! Here is the Haible Krautrock Phaser demonstrated by (way better musician than me!). There are only four of these left. I love these things. The price (575$) reflects the build quality, and complexity. There are tiny incandescent lamps inside that give it an inimitable dreamlike/blurry quality. Built like a tank with top-notch sealed Alps potentiometers, thick steel casing; each one is hand-built and takes ~ 10 hours to build.

Happy New Year everybody! Later, 2020! Really gutted to hear about the death of MF Doom. He died October 31, but his family wanted to keep it quiet and just announced his death today. He was 49. If you haven't heard Madvillain (2004 collaboration between Doom and Madlib), I highly recommend it - a weird-ass, hip-hop masterpiece on the amazing . My fave hip-hop album. Bless you MF Doom, RIP.

Check out this beautiful system on offer over at ! The case is Madrone wood, handmade here in Portland and is really stunning. The system contains a full set of all Moffenzeef modules and comes with patch cables (and Moffenzeef swag) and expansion chips for Muskrat, ready to play. This is an unexpectedly beautiful and emotionally resonant film about a year-long friendship between a professional ocean diver/videographer and a female common octopus (in South Africa). Common octopus only live a year, so ultimately this is a bittersweet tale, but it will linger in your mind for days. Highly recommended!

Been watching the Criterion Collection Channel a lot. Amazing film site (and it is only 100$/year) with a rotating schedule of incredible films. The 'New Korean Cinema' collection now up is particularly great, showcasing multiple films with a large dose of both B**g Joon-Ho and Park Chan-Wook releases (they are the two most well-known directors). In particular, Joint Security Area (Chan-Wook) and the grueling Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance (Joon-Ho) really left an impression. I haven't been rattled by a film like Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance since I endured back to back screenings of Last House on the Left and I Spit on Your Grave. If you liked Joon-Ho's award-winning film Parasite (It is awesome, by the way) you should definitely check out some of his earlier works!
