It’s Me Made May and if you’re interested in following along as I share what I’m wearing each day, check out my personal account . Find more about the May event at . Here’s what I posted about today’s outfit and how I think everyone can and should know how to sew:
Day 6–Ginger Jeans pattern by , Willow Tank, pattern by , RTW cardigan I’ve had a really long time and wear often. Dress on the mannequin is by one of my fashion design students. Not only did she design her prom dress, but she upcycled curtains to make it! So proud of her.
I’m seeing people use the prompt to wear handmades and photograph yourself for in so many ways. Some to identify holes in their wardrobe of things they want to make. Some to realize certain items no longer (or never) work and to pass them along or re-make them into something new. Some are opting out as protest to the number of garments that already exist in this world. Some are trying to get more comfortable in front of the camera and in their own skin. Some are using it as an excuse to think about an outfit that day. Some are showing off their mad sewing skills. Some are bragging (there’s a difference).
What are my goals? To pull things out and see if I still like them. To identify what else I could make that will become something I reach for several times a week. I get inspiration from other posts and learn of pattern designers I now want to try. Definitely to get more comfortable in front of the camera. The thing that makes me step in front of the camera is to show how anyone can sew their own clothes, wear them everyday and love how you feel and look in them. That’s pretty much my #1 goal by running . Anyone can sew, everyone should at least know the basics, and if you take things one step at a time you can make anything you want!
