A door creaks opens in the historic byways of Portsmouth and a mysterious shop appears at 19 Sheafe Street, a sumptuous Victorian psychic parlor where there were only bare walls before. Enter to be greeted by shopkeepers in exquisite historic attire and explore merchandise from the fantastic to the phantasmal. Take home a book of spells, choose a handmade cloak or costume, or purchase arcane art. Delve deeper still and experience a magic workshop, have your fortune told, or purchase tickets for the Deadwick's Spectral Stroll. Something wicked is descending upon the City of the Open Door. A Spiritual Whetstone: Honing Your Spiritual Senses with Fern Deadwick

Thursday, October 15th at 6pm

Every being has the ability and the opportunity to connect deeper with the unseen through our spiritual senses. While this is not something everyone is taught, it is certainly something everyone can do!

In this workshop, experienced spirit worker Fern will discuss the myriad kinds of spiritual senses a practitioner may utilize and offer various accessible methods and practices for developing these skills in a hands-on, beginner-friendly workshop!

Fern Deadwick (they/them) is a völva, trollkona, and a multi-media artist. Growing up on a farm in New Hampshire, they have spent their entire life interacting with spirits. Their practice is deeply rooted in the animist beliefs of the Norse tradition, and informed by their relationships to the spirits of land and place. Day-to-day, Fern can be found crafting in their studio or out in the garden spending time with their poisonous plants.

Broomstick Bound: Hearth Protection & Preparing for Flight with Juniper Deadwick

Tuesday, October 13th at 6pm

The broom, or besom, is more than an ordinary household cleaning tool. As a powerful magical tool for cleansing and protection, as well as a symbol of household work, it has become a trademark of witches for generations.

In this workshop, guests will craft their own autumnal witch’s brooms while discussing some of the history, folklore, superstitions, and modern magical uses. We will also cover some protection rituals that can be applied in the home. Supplies will be provided, but attendees are welcome to bring any materials that they wish to incorporate.

Juniper Deadwick is a hedge witch with a passion for folklore and mythology. She loves calling upon the spirits of plants, animal allies, the dead, and otherworldly beings, and her primary form of practice is household/hearth magic.

Herbal Tea Blending & Tea Leaf Reading for Spirit Communication with Flora and Jezmina

Thursday, October 8th at 6pm

Join Flora Deadwick and Jezmina Von Thiele for a deep exploration of the arts of herbal tea blending and tea leaf reading, and learn how both modalities can help facilitate spirit connection as the veil continues thinning toward Samhain.

Participants will be introduced to medicinal herbs that facilitate connection with ancestors, deities, and divinities, and will learn the essentials of crafting their own herbal tea blends. We will then learn how to utilize those same teas to practice tasseomancy (tea leaf reading) to further their connection with the spiritual world. Everyone will leave with a package of their very own custom tea blend. Bring a notebook, writing utensil, and a curious mind!

Flora Deadwick is our resident herbalist and green witch, specializing in hand-crafted herbal teas. She believes that herbalism is a powerful conduit for healing the body, mind, and soul, and that the plants can help each of us more deeply with our own unique spiritual path and lineage.

Jezmina Von Thiele is of mixed Romani + Sinti heritage and reads tarot, palms, and tea leaves in their family tradition. They are the coauthor of Secrets of Romani Fortune Telling and cohost of Romanistan podcast.

Palmistry 101 with Jezmina Von Theile
Thursday, October 1st at 6pm

Deepen your intuition and strengthen your seeing abilities by exploring the basics of palm reading! Learn the origins of palmistry, and how the persecution of Roma has shaped the culture’s practice of and relationship to fortune telling, molding the practice shared by many today.

Instructor Jezmina Von Thiele will teach you her perspective on the practice passed down from her grandmother, who in turn learned it from her grandparents, and so on. Some Romani spiritual beliefs and customs are kept private within the community, whereas others are given permission to share with an open heart.

Jezmina Von Thiele (they/she) is the co-author of Secrets of Romani Fortune Telling with Paulina Stevens, and a fortune-teller in their mixed Sinti Romani tradition. Jezmina deals in tarot, palms, and tea leaves, and teaches workshops on divination, spiritual wellness, and the creative arts in-person and online (visit jezminavonthiele.com). They often tell fortunes and perform poetry with The Poetry Brothel, Boston’s premiere immersive literary event. Jezmina is co-host of Romanistan celebrating Romani culture.
(Roma are an Indian diasporic ethnic group, also known by the slur/misnomer, Gypsies, and fortune telling is one of the Romani people’s many survival trades.)

Embellishing the Wheel: Wreath Making for Mabon with Juniper Deadwick

Monday, September 21st at 6pm

This Autumn Equinox, gather to craft a Mabon wreath to hold your gratitude and abundance into the dark season!

Wreaths can act as a focal point in hearth magic, as well a circle of heightened magical energy. They may hold a multitude of intentions. A seasonal wreath can also represent a degree in the rotation of the Wheel of the Year. Mabon celebrates the second harvest of the season and is a time for thanksgiving before the dark half of the year begins.

Supplies for this workshop will be provided, but attendees are welcome to bring any plants, crystals, charms, or other materials that they wish to incorporate.

Herbs for the Female Body with Flora Deadwick

The anatomy and functions of your body need not feel like a mystery to you. Herbs can be incredibly effective in soothing the unique challenges of living in a female body: from menstrual pain to irregular cycles to hot flashes to emotional distress caused by hormonal ups and downs.

In this inclusive workshop, participants will be introduced to a number of herbal allies that can particularly help female-bodied people with cycle management, nervous system regulation, self-compassion, and so much more. All ages, genders, and identities are welcome to join.

Flora Deadwick is a trained herbalist and green witch, specializing in hand-crafted herbal teas. Though she works with people experiencing a variety of conditions, she is particularly passionate about nervous system health and resilience. The Human Pendulum: Using Meditation to Improve Awareness and Self-Regulation with Luna Deadwick

Luna Deadwick is a trained clinical social worker with over ten years experience. She is also trained in the Usui Ryoho Reiki system of healing. Luna’s approach to working with clients is authentic, heartfelt, and warm. Her intuitive abilities paired with her clinical training makes her a well-rounded practitioner. It’s a Magical World: Magic and Animism for Wee Witchlings with Fern Deadwick

Is your little one interested in magic? Have they taken to crafting potions from mud and weeds? Casting spells with a cool stick they found on the playground? Hunting around the neighborhood in search of ghosts? Then you’ve come to the right place!

Join Fern, seasoned sorceress and former nanny, for an afternoon of kid-friendly magical education. Intrepid students will be introduced to the concept of animism, a foundational belief in many magical traditions, as well as the basics of spellwork, ritual, and ways to safely connect to and sense spirits.
