The Redfield Hoard is one of the most famous coin hoards ever discovered. LaVere Redfield was a Nevada millionaire who didn't trust banks and spent decades buying silver dollars, often bringing them home in bags and storing them behind a false wall in his basement. After his death in 1974, more than 400,000 silver dollars were discovered, mostly Morgan and Peace dollars. The hoard was eventually sold for more than $7 million and many of the coins were placed in the famous Redfield holders collectors recognize today. What makes the Redfield Hoard so interesting isn't just the number of coins, but the fact that one man quietly accumulated hundreds of thousands of silver dollars while most people had no idea they were there.
