In non-retail news, I’d like to wish Duffy the happiest 17th birthday ever. This dog has melted my crazy cat lady heart in all the best ways, and I’ll love him forever. He eats with one-toothed gusto, chases the cat so she knows who’s boss, and does his best chalk-outlined canine Law and Order victim impression when he sleeps. He’s just such a good little dude. So happy day to you. Duffers sends his little old dog love your way. xoxo 🐾

Dear Ben,

Hi you. I’ve got Mary Jane and Carrigan front and center today, in part because there are so many of their beautiful pictures floating around, but really because I’ve been thinking about light—their light, our collective light as a community, and how it takes courage to shine.

So here’s a little hug, and a little nudge to shine your light, even when it’s hard or scary. Sometimes the shine is just making it out of bed. Or working so hard on the project even though you’re frustrated and tired. MJ and Carrigan set a high bar for strength and perseverance and so much beauty in the face of adversity, but there is so much of their light that continues to shine…and it guides the way for the rest of us.

Anyway, I promise to not bug you while you’re in the end of the year pressure cooker, but just know that I’m sending some of my light your way. Missing you, as if you couldn’t tell.

Case in point, my excellent friend Ben and I made it over to last week for what was easily THE BEST TAKEAWAY EVER! Chef Joe and his team were warm and generous and treat everyone like family, which shines through everything they make and do.
