Well, we are a bit rained out today,

🌱 The greens look so greeeeen
☺️ I am extra grateful for my new porch, ceiling and roof… No leaks
🪴 my plants get a little extra water in this heat
🪚 I have extra time to finish projects

One of the things I love most about POPROX is that it has never been just a store.

It's where my work as an artist, musician, organizer, shopkeeper, and neighbor all seem to meet.

Some weeks I'm unpacking new artwork.

Some weeks I'm rehearsing with Ancient Ego and other music projects.

Some weeks I'm helping put together community events or traveling for creative projects.

And somewhere in between...I'm sweeping the porch, watering the ferns, pricing jewelry, and welcoming people through the door.

So my hours occasionally shift.

Not because POPROX is less important—

Because it's part of a much bigger creative life.

Thanks for continuing to stop in, follow along, and cheer on all the different pieces.

This week's hours are in the first slide. Hope to see you soon. ☀️

For two years, one of my favorite parts of owning POPROX has been getting to know the artists, musicians, writers, makers, performers, and dreamers who wander through our little village.

Some are just beginning.

Some have been quietly making work for decades.

Some simply need someone to say, "Keep going."

That's one of the reasons the Kenneth M. Grebe Foundation exists.

Creative Practice Grant applications are now open, and if you have an active creative practice, or know someone who does, I hope you'll take a look.

This isn't a competition to find the "best" artist.

It's about supporting people who are already doing the work.

Applications are open through August 31.

You'll find all the information at the Foundation website.

Even if you aren't an artist or applying yourself, sharing the opportunity with another artist is a wonderful way to support your creative community.

One of the questions I am often asked is:
“Why do you sit outside?”

It *is* curious because my little shop has air conditioning (and heat) and my porch doesn’t. 😊
I work outside right through December.

When I imagined POPROX, I never pictured myself tucked away behind a counter. I wanted to create a place that felt welcoming before anyone even stepped through the door.
So I work from the porch; sometimes from a canopy beside my building.

I answer emails here. I sketch here. I write here. I package artwork here. I greet hikers, cyclists, families, dogs, and neighbors as they wander through the village.

Sometimes those conversations last thirty seconds.
Sometimes they last an hour.

The porch has always been part of the story.
It gives people a reason to pause. To ask a question. To discover a local artist. To tell me about their adventure or the piece that caught their eye.

Some people come in to shop.
Some people come to talk.
Some people simply wave as they walk by.
They’re all welcome.

Art is important.
Place is important.

Community is, too.

If you’ve stopped to say hello, shared a story, or simply sat for a moment on the porch—thank you for helping make POPROX what I hoped it could be.

Why does this place feel different?
Because it has been lived in.

Art. Goods. Gathering.
