You have to report the bad with the good sometimes!
Coming off back to back canyon overnighters that we had high hopes for just did not materialize the way we drew it up in our heads!
8/23-24 we set out to Atlantis, we were met with much bigger seas than anticipated, storms, and poor fishing. The crew was sick so we trolled through the night further east to the west side of veatch trying to minimize the roll while also looking for something we could pound as the sun came up but did not find much. We ended up grabbing a few rat yellowfin before loading up on mahi and heading home.
8/25-26 since we just covered a bunch of ground to the east I had seen a small finger of water that caught my attention to the west so I made that my starting point. Spent some time in that with nothing to show so we made a decision to pull up and run back east so we could set up for swords with the rising moon. On the overnight we missed a sword bite that just slashed our squid, no love on the chunk yet. The next morning the sargassum was so terrible it was basically unfishable.
4 days, 792 miles, 850 gallons of diesel fuel later we are already planning the next one.
