I have a question for you lady reenactors. As I have stated on here before, this is still a work in progress. I have begun making cage hoops. Would there be an interest of making some available for purchase?

I haven't posted in a while and I thought I would show you what I have been working on. This is an 1860s wrapper. A wrap...

I haven't posted in a while and I thought I would show you what I have been working on.

This is an 1860s wrapper. A wrapper is a dress that would button all the way down the front. This particular dress would also be called a morning gown becasue it is darted in the front and confined at the waist with a belt. The skirt is left open to reveal a fancy petticoat. A morning gown would be appropriate for receiving morning visitors or eating at a public breakfast table such as at a boarding house.

This style could also be a looser fit by not darting the front and could also be called a dressing gown. A dressing gown would be appropriate for more at home use the way we would wear a bathrobe today. A dressing gown would also be appropriate as a maternity dress. When a woman would become "with child" she would be confined the the house. This dress would also alow enough room for her belly to grow.

I was just remembering the days when I first started reenacting. I had no idea what I was doing, no direction, and no idea of what to look for. This has been on my mind for some time now. I would like to start a "newbie kit" Something that will incourage the hobby and try to spare obvious newbie mistakes while they are still learning. My goal is to help new reenactors get a good basic wardrobe foundation and stay within a beginner's budget.
