🚜Farm Fact: The combine harvester got it's name from its ability to combine three separate harvesting processesd: reaping, threshing, winnowing. Today, one operator in a modern combine can harvest tens of acres of crops an hour, work that used to take dozens of people and animals days to complete.

Across the Intermountain West, county fairs and livestock shows are in full swing, and we couldn’t be prouder of the hard-working 4-H and FFA youth stepping into the show ring. The dedication, responsibility and resilience learned in the barn are values that stay with a young producer for a lifetime and that’s why supporting our youth ag leaders is at the core of who we are at IFA.

From feeding high-quality show feeds to cheering in the grandstands and supporting local junior livestock auctions, IFA is proud to stand behind the next generation of agriculture.

We want to remind all the Young Producers about the opportunity to earn recognition and prizes in IFA's Platinum Show Feed Awards program. If you or your young producer fed IFA Platinum Show Feeds this season, don’t forget to apply! We love celebrating your success in the ring and rewarding your hard work.

Did summer take a toll on your lawn? Thin patches, high foot traffic, and intense heat can leave your grass looking tired, but the secret to a thick, barefoot-worthy lawn next spring actually starts right now!

Late summer and early fall are the best times to consider overseeding your lawn in the Intermountain West. Cooler air temperatures paired with warm soil create the ideal conditions for new seeds to take root before winter sets in.

6 Steps for Overseeding Success:
1. Aerate Your Turf: Open up compacted soil so seeds can make direct contact with the dirt.
2. Fertilize for Strong Roots: Opt for a root-builder high in phosphorus, like IFA 16-16-16 Grand Champion.
3. Pick the Right Blend: Choose a seed tailored to your yard: IFA GreenStar 5 or Kentucky Bluegrass for cold/heat tolerance, Escalante for hot desert climates, Quick Green for high-traffic yards, or Real Shade for under tree canopies.
4. Spread & Scratch: Spread seeds evenly using a broadcast seeder, then lightly rake ("scratch") them into the topsoil.
5. Insulate: Top with a light layer of Kellogg Garden Organics Topper or peat moss to retain critical moisture.
6. Water Consistently: Keep the seedbed moist during germination (bluegrass takes 21–30 days, ryegrass 7–10 days).

Not sure which grass blend fits your shade, heat, or soil conditions? You don't have to guess. Stop by your local IFA Country Store and chat with our lawn and garden experts for help matching the right seed blend to your yard.
