The dynamic duo of iconic writer Eileen Myles & poetry scholar - Dr. Rosa Campbell (University of St. Andrews -Scotland) brought us to the 1950’s and 1970’s through two new books - which are delighting poetry lovers!

East End Books Ptown Presents: Eileen Myles “Bird Watching - and Their First Three Books of Poetry” In Conversation w/ Dr. Rosa Campbell “ (UK) - “The Miraculous Season: Selected Poems.” Signed copies of both books are available.

Eileen allowed us to see the forming of a brilliant writer as they were figuring out how to be a writer & how to live…Rosa brought us into the world of Boston writer V.R. Bunny Lang who died young of cancer. Bunny was a close friend of Frank O’Hara & a central figure in the lively Harvard Literary scene of the 1950’s.

The conversation between Eileen & Rosa was a masterclass into the lives of great writers.

Eileen read an excerpt from their brilliant poem “Bird Watching,” bringing us into their NYC apartment & into the world of poets & writers in the 70’s. They have read the full poem only once - (over 1 hour & hopefully we’ll be able to hear them read the entire poem another time).

What a beautiful story about two people in love who take the leap to have two boys through surrogacy. The book truly is a snapshot of an American Family. Celebrated author Brad Gooch gives us an inside look at how love created a family. Brad also reflects on his own childhood and upbringing, while uncovering mysteries “hiding in plain sight.”

This is not your typical memoir. It’s about four unique individuals, their lives and the family and friends that love them - written in the voice of a brilliant poet, novelist, and biographer. It’s also a portrait of “becoming a father in middle age. Having experienced once-unfathomable changes in what it means to be gay in American Society, having lived through the AIDS crisis in New York, and having survived the death of his first great love.”

We previously had a fantastic event with Brad when his superb book “Radiant” was published. Brad was in conversation with Ken Fulk. The event was followed by a lovely dinner benefiting Twenty Summers.

*We have fond memories of Brad and Paul East End Books Ptown when “Smash Cut” came out. A great crowd turned out for the book event. People were gathered in person and online. At one point when Brad was reading, his (at the time) young son Walter, ran up to Brad to hug him. An adorable moment!
