Giraffe Calf Update!

The baby girl born on Oct. 19 continues to steal our hearts and grow with the herd. Giraffe calves can be fragile, but we're happy to report she seems to be a very strong long-legged little. Since Wednesday, here are a few big moments we've seen.

— She has met herd members Msichana, Msitu, Laikipia and Amani.
— She explored outside.
— She likes to stand underneath browse and 'nose' it.
— She continues to be quite the curious calf! She follows mom closely and seems interested in what keepers are doing on the other side of the fence.
— Guests can see her every day in the barn or while exploring outside at CMZoo.
— When she's inside in the birth stall, fans can watch her on our temporary 24-hour per day live cam at cmzoo.org/giraffecam or youtube.com/.

Since she seems to be doing well, her care team hasn't needed to intervene, and we don't have an exact weight or height. We don't have a naming plan yet for the calf, but if there's an opportunity for public input we will share that on our social media channels.
