Our great-grandfather, Howard B. Sine, opened his new store on this day 114 years ago. The first store was located in the basement of 217 W. Broad St. We have no pictures of this store, but we have the ledger of his receipts totaling $98. He moved his business to 236 W. Broad St. in 1926 which makes this building 100 years old. Many changes have happened through the years, the generations taking their turn as owning and operating the family business. Now it's up to Billy and me to continue the tradition. We thank you for your continued support. Happy 114th anniversary to us!

I guess by now most of you know the reason we were closed yesterday was not just to get candy. A movie by Daniel Roebuck and Grace Roebuck under their production company, A Channel of Peace was filmed here.
Dad always wished that the store would be used in a movie. This has been in the works for months now. But when we told Dad about it the dementia prevented him from truly understanding it. Had he been his old self, he would have been right there watching the entire time. He would have been so happy and proud.
BTW, Billy and Gail did get candy.

We are overwhelmed by the thousands of responses and comments on the several posts on our dad's passing. There are too may to reply to individually. So, a huge thank you for the sympathies extended, sincere condolences sent, prayers offered and wonderful memories shared. It means the world to us that Dad touched so many people from his life's work, this place we call Sine's 5 &10.
We would also like to thank St. Lukes Hospice. We can't say enough about the excellent care he received as well as the support they provided for Mom.
Thank you also for the cards and flowers sent, trees planted in Dad's name and the kind words written on C. R. Strunk's website. Andy and Jill from Strunk's went above and beyond in ensuring that Dad's life was well celebrated. They helped make a difficult time less difficult. A special thank you to the members of Masonic Lodge 512 for the moving ceremony. Dad would have appreciated it immensely.
Billy and I have to acknowledge our respective spouses and children. They all supported our decision to do whatever was necessary to keep Dad at home and stepped up when it became obvious Mom needed more help caring for him. We couldn't have done it without them.
I'm sorry for the long post and if I've missed anyone, I apologize.
And please love each other and take care of each other. In the end that's all that matters.
