Sometimes, a piece of home travels farther than we do—carrying our colors, our stories, and our pride across oceans.
And this week, a glow born in Pampanga is about to shine over Los Angeles.
CSFP City Information Office shared that an 18-foot giant lantern handcrafted in San Fernando now stands tall at Island Pacific in Santa Monica, California. Crafted by Arvin Quiwa and his team, the lantern is made of 13 glowing segments, each one shaped with careful hands and the spirit of Fernandino tradition.
After days of installation and electrical work, it’s officially ready for its first lighting on November 22 at 6:00 PM PST. Many in the Filipino community—along with curious locals—are waiting for the moment it turns on for the first time.
This lantern is more than a decoration. It represents craft handed down through generations. It’s a reminder of home for Filipinos abroad. And it’s a proud moment for Capampáng̃ans seeing their heritage celebrated on the other side of the world.
The unveiling is part of the Paskong Pinoy BER-Kada Fiesta, a gathering with food, performances, and partners working together to bring Filipino culture to life in California. Mayor Vilma Balle-Caluag and other leaders are also expected to take part in this milestone.
For many, this is a rare moment—seeing the craftsmanship of San Fernando brought all the way to LA, glowing with the same heart and artistry we grew up with.
