I haven't been buying a lot of comics recently. Everything sucks and I've needed to be realistic. That doesn't mean I've deprived myself of one of the few things that makes me happy, I just need to be smarter and wiser. I want to share two recent pick ups, just because everyone is talking about Supergirl. I'm glad to see Supergirl finally getting the treatment she deserves. A real movie with a real plot about a realistic girl. Supergirl was created in the late 1950's and was part of the era where they really nerf'ed Superman. He became a house dad. A real American father figure. This is around the same time as Krypton, the Super Dog, Streaky the Super Cat and who could forget Comet Supergirl's Super Horse! Supergirl endured on, including enduring a really bad 80s attempt at a film. This upcoming Supergirl is adapting a really good story about dealing with trauma and what it means to be a "hero." I'm looking forward to getting blown away.
These two books are pretty special. I don't know if I'll ever own the 1st appearance of Supergirl. It's a grail book. I do have Action Comics 253, though. That's her 2nd appearance! The other issue I've included is an important milestone issue, a minor key of you will. This is the issue where it's revealed that Superman and Supergirl get their powers from Earth's yellow sun, due to their Kryptonian physiology. Krypton of course has a red sun. This is very important to the plot of the upcoming Supergirl movie, because she goes to Red Sun plants inorder to party, aka, drown her sorrows and trauma.
Comics are awesome and I don't care what anyone says. Nerdy to the core.
