We're excited to announce that we've launched a new smart text messaging service through a partnership with technology firm TextMyGov.

Residents will receive important notifications from the city and ultimately can text the city’s phone number to find information quickly.

“We are excited about this new way of communicating with residents,” said Gadsden Mayor Craig Ford. “We look forward to sharing essential city updates and information as citizens receive their news in more ways than ever. We see this as just one more tool to help get the word out about what’s going on in Gadsden. Soon, we'll also launch our City of Gadsden app, offering residents even more ways to receive information and help us improve the city.”

The City of Gadsden has officially launched the new TextMyGov text messaging system to the public, which means that many residents will receive an initial text message from 91896 from the City of Gadsden. Recipients can choose to opt out at any time by texting STOP.

Anyone who did not receive the initial message can opt-in by texting the keyword “GADSDENINFO” to the number 91896.

After sending the initial keyword, residents will be asked to reply “YES” to confirm opt-in. Residents may receive notifications for road closures, service interruptions, special events, general city updates, etc.

Residents can also find quick information 24/7 by texting one or two keywords to 256-413-5333.

Residents can find quick information about City Hall, reporting issues, city forms, permits, jobs, events, etc. To start, text “Hi” to the City’s TextMyGov number 256-413-5333.

Taught this ole dog a new/old trick!

Stupid Thing I Learned:

I read a tip about putting things like fresh berries and veggies into mason jars as soon as you bring them home from the grocery store as a means of keeping them fresh longer.

I scoffed at the idea, but I was also suffering from "I-just-bought-these-berries-three-days-ago-and-now-they're-bad" fatigue, so I headed to The Walmart to buy a case of jars.

OMG.

I don't want to say this tip was life-changing, but it sort of was. I am Mason jarring ALL THE THINGS now. I have so many Mason jars, it's not even funny. Even small glass jelly jars. The produce lasts so much longer. Like, you don't even KNOW.

And the cool thing about the tall jars is that in a fridge like mine, which is more wide than long (that's what she said) you can lay them horizontally on the top shelf.

It's a stupid thing, but I can't believe I've lived my whole life not knowing this.

I apologize to all the fruits and vegetables of my past.
I didn't know.
I DIDN'T KNOW.
