PARTITA by Barbara Kingsolover

"This is a novel meant to be read slowly, enjoyed like the classical music referenced throughout. It is also a novel that could be read over and over so that the layers can be revealed. Every read will bring a new focus and a new passage to love. Kingsolver's descriptions of music, its power and magic, were breathtaking and truly masterful. This is one of the best books of the year."

Our October Take Ten comes from Vern!

"Yearning / Pleasure / Desire in the poetic kind of way. in the craving kind of way. in the carving kind of way. in the freak(y) kind of way. in the obsessive kind of way. in the Teenage S*x and Death at Camp Miasma kind of way, or, perhaps, the Bend it Like Beckham kind of way. in the way that a haunted house and a body are the same—that tender, complicated kind of way."

The Unselected Journals of Emma M. Lion by

"Delightful! Witty! Charming! Enchanting!

I am consumed and possessed by this series-in the best possible way (it IS the dream life). If you think Jane Austen is funny (and I do), you will find yourself quite beset with amusement. Overwhelmed by your snorts and giggles, you may need smelling salts and a near-by fainting couch.

Welcome to the cult. It is lovely.

The quirky, captivating world of St. Crispian’s awaits you. Lucky, lucky you.

You must read the first two journals before you are properly addicted. Each one is better than the last."
